Senior Property Accountant Job Description:
Position Summary
This position is responsible for comprehensive accounting oversight for a portfolio of real estate assets. Core functions include the preparation of periodic financial reports, property-level billing computations, and reconciliation of various financial accounts. The role requires proficiency in real estate financial structures and the ability to manage detailed accounting workflows within a multi-property environment.
A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably with an emphasis in Accounting. A minimum of five years of relevant real estate accounting experience is expected. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication competencies are essential.
Essential Functions
- Conducts review and authorization of check processing activities, deposit transactions, and related accounts payable actions.
- Monitors receivable aging reports and ensures adherence to collection timelines.
- Validates periodic/recurring tenant charges for accuracy and correct posting.
- Prepares financial reporting packages for designated mixed-use properties (commercial and retail).
- Performs reconciliations for multiple operating bank accounts.
- Executes closing procedures at month-end.
- Computes management fee schedules on a monthly basis.
- Generates billing for real estate tax obligations, operating expense allocations, utility charges, and CPI-related adjustments.
- Assembles year-end financial documentation and reporting files for external audit and tax preparation.
- Maintains and updates personnel documentation and administrative records.
- Reviews and verifies employee timekeeping submissions, including totals for overtime, vacation, and personal leave.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Accounting or Finance discipline preferred
- Minimum of five years of experience in real estate accounting
- Demonstrated analytical strength and capacity for detailed financial review
