What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Counselor position at The Packer Collegiate Institute?
The Packer Collegiate Institute is seeking energetic, kind, student-centered counselors to work in the Packer Summer Camp program from June 13-July 22, 2022.
Essential Functions
- Work with a co-counselor to provide constant supervision of a group of 10-12 campers;
- Memorize, follow, and enforce all safety guidelines and emergency procedures associated with the camp program;
- Participate in daily staff meetings;
- Work with the camp nurse to closely monitor camper medical conditions;
- Maintain the daily camp schedule;
- Mediate camper disputes;
- Report details of incidents, such as accidents or rule violations, to a head counselor;
- Transport campers to and from the St. Francis College pool each morning;
- Actively participate in swimming lessons (including getting into the water daily);
- Assist instructors during various activities (e.g. arts and crafts, sports, etc.);
- Monitor lunch and ensure that campers with food allergies are kept safe;
- Clean, maintain, and ensure proper use of camp facilities and equipment;
- Perform minor first aid as needed;
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities;
- Report all student injuries, accidents, and illnesses as soon as possible;
- Participate in and maintain order during periodic fire safety drills;
- Provide additional support as needed.
Qualifications
- At least 14-years-old and a rising 10th grade student;
- Availability to work all 6 weeks of the camp season;
- Past experience as camp counselor or in similar role working with children (preferred);
- CPR and First Aid certification (preferred).
