JOB TITLE: Central Sterile Processing Technician
SUPERVISOR: O.R. Supervisor
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:
Performs technical tasks that support clinical operations. The primary focus of this position includes decontaminating, preparing, and sterilizing of instruments and distribution of supplies and equipment for the Operating Room. The secondary focus is preparation of case carts for the following day's surgeries.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Properly decontaminate, clean, inspect, assemble, package, sterilize, store, distribute and document reusable surgical instruments and equipment according to established standards and departmental procedures
2. Responsible for the ordering of supplies and instruments and pulling of cases
3. Assists in clean-up of rooms between procedures and at the end of the schedule.
4. Documents pertinent data on required forms in accordance with departmental policies.
5. Assists in monitoring and maintaining instruments, supplies, and equipment in the unit.
6. Acts appropriately in emergency situations by notifying and assisting clinical personnel.
7. Reports to supervisor any unusual occurrences, malfunctioning equipment, any unsafe condition or potential hazard.
8. Attends in-service programs and keeps informed of current policies and procedures and standards of practice.
9. Contributes to a positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department.
10. Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Knowledge/Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent; knowledge of medical terminology, instrumentation and surgical procedures. Certification from IAHCSMM or CBSPD highly preferred. BLS is required.
Experience: Minimum one- year experience required.
Direction of Others: No
Essential Physical Requirements: Stands and walks for prolonged periods of time. Lifts and transports heavy instrument trays, supplies, and equipment on a frequent basis.
Essential Environmental Conditions: Continuous exposure to blood and chemical solutions. Continuous exposure to human waste, secretions, sputum, infectious diseases, anesthetic gases, and heat from sterilizers.'
