JOB POSITION: DISHWASHER
**MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS!!**
SUMMARY: Properly washes and stores all dishes, eating utensils, pots and pans, and small equipment. Maintains the dish room and dish machine in a clean, organized, and sanitary condition.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
*Works with a sense of urgency
*Sets up and breaks down the dish machine, including arms, curtains, and screens.
*Properly washes and stores all dishes, eating utensils, pots and pans, and small equipment.
*Handles dishes gently to minimize breakage and noise.
*Checks the machine to be sure it is operating properly and reports any defects immediately.
*Checks water temperatures during the shift to ensure proper sanitizing.
*Changes water in dish machine and soak sinks every three hours or more often, if necessary.
*Cleans and organizes the dish room throughout the shift: puts stock away, keeps the floor dry, and takes out the garbage.
*Cleans and polishes the machine thoroughly, hosing down the inside and removing any paper.
*Cleans the walls and shelves in the dish room.
*Readily accepts direction from management, the head server, and kitchen manager.
*Follows all safety precautions to prevent injury or illness.
*Performs cleaning duties as assigned.

All other employees – the dishwasher’s position is very important to our restaurant. The dishwasher must be able to respond quickly to requests from other employees for needed items. This will ensure that the other employees will be able to perform their jobs smoothly.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
The ability to understand simple instructions from managers or other employees. English is not a requirement.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense to carry out simple one-or two-step instructions from managers, or other employees. Ability to handle standardized, repetitive tasks with few variables, such as, unloading buspans and racking dishes.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly (up to the entire shift) required to:
- Work quickly
- Stand
- Walk
- Use hands to grasp or handle items (plates and cups), and
- Reach with hands and arms (to put dirty glasses into glass racks)
- Stoop or crouch (to pick up bus pans), and
- Twist or turn (while loading and unloading the machine)
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds when handling bus pans, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds when putting stock away or taking out the garbage.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to humid and wet conditions from the dish machine and from frequently having his/her hands in water. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud.
