JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose of this position is to provide quality, school-based intervention services to Charter School students who are presenting with significant motor difficulties resulting in the need for adapted physical education. This position provides quality, discipline-specific treatment for children with developmental delays, various disabilities, and autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The Adapted PE Teacher will evaluate children and will develop and monitor individualized goals and plans according to treatment plans and IEPs. Administer standardized assessments and provide parent education and support. APE Services are provided to students who have a wide variety of differences or disorders including physical, cognitive or developmental and who are determined eligible for services through the IEP process.

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Possess a clinical knowledge of motor impairments, development, and physical educational needs. Provide or model expanded core curriculum areas for the visually impaired Provide comprehensive assessment of students with motor impairments for special education initial referrals and for three-year re-evaluation. Providing direct instruction and support to students during PE and other physical activities Participate as a specialist in the area of adapted physical education for the purpose of determining eligibility for services . Assist teams to determine modified curriculum or equipment needs and provide training to ensure access to specially designed physical education instruction and the general education curriculum. ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Participate in the preparation and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEP) or Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP) for identified students on caseload. Prepare records and reports for eligibility evaluations, services IEP/IFSP and transitions according to program procedures or as directed. Demonstrate knowledge of and follow special education rules, regulations, procedures and timelines of the special education code. Monitor programs using observation, data collection and pre-post assessment. Serve as a resource consultant and trainer to provide specialized suggestions and/or materials for use by educations and/or parents and assist with registering students with the appropriate agencies that serve the Visually Impaired. Manage multiple priorities and timelines. Collaborating with teachers, parents, and other school staff to develop and implement strategies to support student learning and participation in PE and other physical activities Providing training and support to teachers and other school staff on how to best support students with disabilities in physical education.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (4 years) in education. 1 year directly related experience in a pediatric setting. Ability to pass background/fingerprint clearance, health screenings and provide/obtain immunizations (TB) valid within the last year. Current CA Teacher Certificate. Must pass the California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET) in physical education and the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST). Valid Driver’s License, proof of auto insurance, and reliable transportation excluding virtual providers only. Ability to travel to school sites and/or clinic for in-person providers. Virtual providers are exempt from this requirement. COMPETENCIES: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Enthusiastic, Professional, Responsible Dedicated to work with children with special needs. Ethical Personal Effectiveness/Credibility Communicate in the spirit of cooperation, compassion and openness. Demonstrate cultural competence thorough understanding others cultures, understanding cultural differences and valuing the importance of culture and valuing the difference.
