Early Elementary Literacy Interventionist

We’re looking for an educator passionate about early literacy to join us as an Early Elementary Literacy Interventionist in a part-time, 50% full-time equivalent position. Supporting students in the lower school, this role focuses on small-group intervention, push-in support, and close collaboration with teachers and families to ensure equitable literacy growth. The ideal candidate brings expertise in responsive, data-informed instruction and a deep commitment to helping every child become a confident reader and writer.

The normal schedule for this position is:

Monday and Tuesday: 8 - 2:15 PM 

Wednesday: 8-3:30 PM

Primary Responsibilities 

Instructional Support & Intervention

• Deliver targeted small-group literacy instruction for lower school students using a structured multi-sensory approach focused on foundational skills: phonemic awareness, phonics, spelling, morphology, fluency, comprehension, and writing.
• Adapt instruction to align with classroom curriculum, individual student needs, and foundational skill building.
• Use inclusive, identity-affirming texts and resources.
• Assign extension work to reinforce learning.
• Monitor student progress.

Data & Assessment

• Collaborate with teachers to identify students using classroom data and assessments.
• Conduct diagnostic and formative assessments; document and monitor progress.
• Prepare written progress reports for conferences and student support meetings.

Collaboration & Communication

• Meet with teachers to align instruction and review data.
• Provide bimonthly updates to families, including at-home strategies.
• Communicate with external specialists as needed.
• Attend Literacy Team and Student Support meetings. 
• Coordinate with tutors and teachers on skill transfer and progress reports.
• Set summer goals and contribute to Summer Learning planning.

Family Engagement & School Contributions

• Support student support documentation and student support plans.
• Share literacy expertise at school events (e.g., parent nights, parent education events).
• Curate inclusive book lists for families (3x/year) representing diverse identities and experiences.
• Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Literacy, or a related field; advanced degree or certification in reading instruction preferred.
• Certification and/or training in structured literacy programs such as Orton-Gillingham, Sonday System, Slingerland, and Handwriting Without Tears is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience with early elementary literacy instruction and intervention.
• Familiarity with literacy assessment tools.
• Commitment to developing an understanding of the needs of gifted learners. 
• A strong ability to effectively support neurodiverse students, including those with learning differences and language-based disorders.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with educators, families, and outside professionals.
• Commitment to inclusive and equitable teaching practices.
• Commitment to ongoing professional growth.
• Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt materials for a range of learner needs.

Compensation and Benefits

The full-time equivalent salary range for this position is $79,200 - $145,900. The starting salary is based upon, but not limited to, several factors that include type and years of experience, education level, and expertise.
