The Department of Psychology at The New School for Social Research and Eugene Lang College, invites applicants for a postdoctoral fellowship position to begin July 1, 2026. The duration of the position is for one year with the possibility of additional years pending funding availability. The successful applicant (the Fellow) will support the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program and the Concentration in Mental Health and Substance Abuse Counseling (CMHSAC) in the MA in General Psychology program through teaching, supervision and service to the program, as needed.

The Fellow will also receive supervised hours conducting psychotherapy and assessments per their interests (e.g., to help toward licensure). The Fellow may also provide supervisory support to clinical psychology doctoral students at The Safran Center who are conducting psychotherapy and assessment.

Interested Fellows will also receive support and guidance on their research and grant writing skills so that they are strongly competitive on the academic market. The successful applicant will be free to pursue their research agenda but are also encouraged to partake in mentored research in one or more laboratory spaces.

The Clinical Psychology Doctoral program is fully accredited by the American Psychological Association. Its mission is to train scientist-practitioners who are: (1) Competent at clinical practice (diagnostic assessment, case formulation, and intervention; (2) Engaged in contributing to scholarship (in all its forms); (3) Grounded in the broader field of scientific psychology and capable of integrating scientific knowledge, clinical research and practice; and (4) Effective communicators about psychology with a wide range of individuals while acknowledging the influence of context, culture, development, and individual differences.

The MA in General Psychology program provides students with a basic education in psychology and is a prerequisite for more specialized work leading to the PhD degree. Students take courses covering a wide range of the literature, including cognitive, social, developmental, and abnormal psychology, neuroscience, research methods, and statistics.

The Clinical Psychology program and the Cognitive, Social, and Developmental program form the Department of Psychology. Our world-class faculty average five peer-reviewed publications per year in high-impact outlets, and are funded by NIMH, NSF, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, The McDonnell Foundation, and the Department of Commerce, among other federal and foundational funding.

Responsibilities

The position includes a three-course teaching load during the academic year. Allocation of two courses at either the graduate or undergraduate level will be determined in consultation with the director of clinical training based on a balance of departmental need and the candidate’s areas of expertise.

The appointment will begin July 1, 2026.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicants must have defended their PhD by June 30, 2026 or provide a letter from their advisor and the chair of their department stating that the defense of their dissertation will occur no later than the start of the 2026 fall term.

Preferred Qualifications

  • The research specialty is open, but the ideal candidate will have overlapping research interests with one or more laboratories in our Clinical program.
  • We seek candidates with promise of excellence in research, teaching, and program management.

WORK MODALITY

On-Campus Position: Faculty are expected to work on-campus due to the nature of the work in accordance with University policies as set forth in the Full-Time Faculty Handbook.

SALARY RANGE

$50,000 - $55,000 per annum
