In addition to providing specialized short-term rehabilitation in partnership with leading hospitals and person-directed nursing home care, The New Jewish Home offers programs to help older adults in the community thrive. We operate comprehensive adult day health care programs in Manhattan and the Bronx, a home care agency, a certified home health agency, and a Medicaid Assisted Living Program.
The Client Experience and Meaningful Life Department on the Manhattan campus is seeking interns to join our team! Work schedule is 13 hours/week: Sundays (10-6) and one weekday evening (2:30-8:30pm), which is subject to change.
Job Summary: Assist Community Life Activities, Volunteers, Religious Life & Therapeutic Recreation staff in running meaningful engagement activities with the residents both one- to- one and in a group setting.
Job Duties:
Assist staff with on-unit activities including sing- along, music appreciation, exercise, dance, games, crafts etc.
Provide one-on-one interactions such as reading to resident, Music & Memory, Technology, letter writing, games, and conversation.
Assist with transportation to off-unit programming.
Assist with off-unit programs as needed but not limited to: transporting residents to and from program, and decorating the auditorium.
Assist with hanging monthly Activity Calendars and decorating communities.
Assists in guiding volunteers and volunteer group projects.
Coaches and mentors new volunteers.
Takes an active role in new volunteer onboarding, i.e. communication with potential volunteers, assisting with tracking and transitioning into registered volunteers.
Assists with Volunteer Office clerical functions, such as logistics, record keeping, ID making.
Position shift includes weekends/evenings, 20-23 hours part time per week
Qualifications/Requirements:
Must be at least 15 years old
Must be a high school or college student
Must have previous volunteer or intern experience at The New Jewish Home
Salary Range: $17.00
