Art Therapy Teaching Assistant
Supervisor: Education Manager and Senior Programs Manager
Part-Time, Temporary (on a term-by-term basis)
Pay: $28 per hour
Availability: Mondays from 4:00-7:00 pm, Tuesdays from 4:45 – 7:45 pm, 6 hours total per week
About the program:
This expressive art therapy group provides a safe and responsive space for children and teens to create, connect, and share in a variety of art modalities in a confidential community environment. Mindfulness and ego-building weekly art exercises allow students to access, express, and transform feelings and struggles into meaningful art forms.
Position Details:
The New Art Center seeks a young professional artist educator to assist in weekly sessions with MS-ATR registered art therapist with up to 8 students per course. The person in this role will be present in the classroom and assist the instructor and art therapist, Erin Loparo, in a very hands-on classroom setting made up of diverse learners. Candidates must have availability on Mondays from 4:00-7:00 pm, Tuesdays from 4:45 – 7:45 pm, from September 29 – December 09, 2025. This job posting is for these dates, and will be resigned term by term based on availability and need.

Class time: 6:30-7:30 pm
Duties include:
- Assisting with the preparation of materials
- Communicating with MS-ATR art therapist to build a curriculum
- Supporting students with diverse learning styles and mental health needs
- Assist with upkeep of studio cleanliness and material organization
Qualifications:
- BA or interest/background in expressive arts therapies/art education required. Studio art or art education degree highly preferred.
- 2-3 years of experience working with children/teens, preferably in an arts setting required.
- Previous experience with neurodiverse populations working in special education or with special needs students is a plus.
- Must have a flexible and enthusiastic teaching style that encourages both skill-building and creativity.
- Applicants must have a working knowledge of art materials and studio procedures, and the ability to adapt projects in the moment in order to make them more accessible.
- Ability to stand during shifts, and lift up to 20lbs on an occasional basis. Comfortable working in an active, hands-on environment
