Building Monitor
Conducts random and scheduled patrols of assigned school sites, facilities and grounds, or at other sites of NAS sponsored events.  Monitors and observes activities and ensures students, staff and visitors comply with school policies and procedures.


Takes intervening action when necessary, to prevent or resolve potential or actual disruptive activity or incidents.  Notifies Chain of Command and local law enforcement officials about criminal activity.  Contacts and verifies authorization for access of all persons entering NAS facilities or grounds.

Maintains close communication with and keeps the site of administrator informed of all matters related to site safety and security.  Maintains close communications with the Principal relaying information regarding potential activity effecting the safety and security of students, staff, or facilities.

Maintains a current knowledge of school policies concerning student conduct and discipline and applicable federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.

Refers students who have violated school policy or laws to the site administrator or designee.

Produces written and/or oral incident reports on: non-compliance to school policy; matters of disruptive activity; incidents of damage, injury, weapons use or possession, theft, drug abuse, alcohol and tobacco use, sabotage, vandalism, assaults/fights, or other inappropriate or illegal activity occurring on NAS properties. Produces written reports on any security-related matters upon request of the Principal.  Maintains a reporting responsibility and keeps the school Principal informed of all incidents.

Develops and maintains an effective and professional working relationship with students, faculty, staff, and parents.  Initiates immediate contact, when necessary or requested, to prevent or resolve potential or actual situations of non-compliance to school policies relating to student discipline and conduct, and to safety and security measures, practices, and procedures.

Maintains an immediate availability when law enforcement or central security has been summoned to respond to the school or site.

Maintains the confidentiality of student information.

Develops, in thorough coordination with the site administrator, site security, and basic patrol plan.  Recommends changes in site safety and security operations to reduce safety and security risks.  Conducts security-related investigations, as directed.

Attends and completes required training as directed by the Principal; initiates or requests ongoing training regarding the use of technology or information involving safety and security techniques, procedures, and protocols and general technological use.

Obtains and maintains current or future professional in-training certifications, as required.

Follows established NAS policies and procedures.

Performs other related security and attendance monitoring duties as requested, such as assisting with getting students to class in a timely manner to prevent tardiness and truancies, enforcement of school dress code.

Will serve on the Safe School Committee.

May assist school office with short errands and tasks.


PERFORMANCE
Compliance with established human resource and departmental policies regarding:  attendance (compliance to scheduling of flexible work hours, absences, tardiness, sick leave and other scheduled or unscheduled absences); dress code; safety; security, emergency, disaster and other policies and practices.  Demonstrated effective conflict management skills, oral and written communication skills, including an ability to diplomatically, appropriately and skillfully communicate with students and staff.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Essential duties may routinely be performed in a variety of district facilities including: schools, general offices, other environments, and/or with the external perimeter of a school campus.  Other areas of assignment may include parking lots and mobile classrooms or other locations that are on or immediately adjacent to a school campus.  Duties may be performed in varying degrees of weather conditions including conditions that may be extreme.  Essential duties require hearing sufficient to hear two-way radio traffic and low volume sounds and noises.  Essential duties routinely involve rapidly negotiating multiple flights of stairs; walking, sitting and standing for extended periods of time; running; and physical confrontation with others.  Duties may also require the ability to lift or physically move objects or other persons during times of emergency.  After a qualified offer of employment, candidates must pass a physical examination, which may include drug or alcohol screening.  Compliance to security and safety procedures, including use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND TRAINING
High school diploma or equivalent required.  Experience working with youth a plus..  Able to demonstrate work experience in security or in closely related fields also desirable.  Successful completion of the NAS Security Training Program is required.
