What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Baker/Decorator position at The Nerdy Baker LLC?
The Nerdy Baker is a small, independently owned pop-culture themed bakery looking for an experienced, reliable Assistant Baker/Decorator to join our team.
We're looking for someone who can jump into bakery production, work independently once trained, and help keep things moving during busy production days. You don't need to be an advanced custom cake decorator, but you should already have basic baking and decorating experience and be comfortable producing clean, consistent work.
What you'll be doing
- Baking cookies and other daily bakery case items
- Frosting and decorating cupcakes
- Decorating basic cakes and cheesecakes
- Assisting with pies and seasonal/holiday production
- Prep, filling, frosting and finishing work
- Stocking and maintaining bakery cases
- Assisting with custom orders and larger production days
- Helping with opening duties and general bakery operations
- Cleaning and maintaining an organized work area
What we're looking for
- Previous bakery, baking/pastry or similar commercial kitchen experience
- Basic cake and cupcake decorating skills
- Ability to follow recipes and production procedures accurately
- Ability to work efficiently and independently after training
- Dependability and punctuality — especially for opening shifts
- Good organization and attention to detail
- Willingness to jump between different production tasks as needed
- French macaron experience is a HUGE plus!
Schedule
The regular schedule is primarily Thursday–Saturday, generally beginning around 7–7:30 AM. Typical shifts are approximately 6–9 hours.
Additional days and hours may be required for large orders, special events and peak holiday production.
Holiday availability is required. The weeks leading up to Thanksgiving and Christmas may include additional workdays, including Sunday–Wednesday, and longer production shifts of approximately 10–12 hours.
You will NOT be required to work Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day or Easter Sunday.

The Nerdy Baker isn't your typical bakery. We're inspired by superheroes, movies, TV, gaming and all things pop culture. Our menu includes traditional bakery favorites alongside creations with a nerdy twist.
You definitely don't have to be a nerd to work here... but if you are, you'll fit right in.
We're a small team, so we're looking for someone who is comfortable pitching in wherever needed and who takes pride in producing quality work.
