A family in Short Hills is looking for a dependable, engaging, and proactive full-time nanny for their two kids, ages 2 and 3 years old. The schedule is Monday to Friday, from 11:30 am until 7:30 pm. The family is also open to occasional weekend date nights (1x per month). Willingness to travel to their beach house on Long Island (2x per year for 2-3 days) is a plus, but not required.

Duties include:

School pickups and transportation to afternoon activities. Maintaining the afternoon routine of snacks, play, outdoor time, and homework support. Planning age-appropriate activities (minimal screens; lots of hands-on play). Preparing the children’s dinners, bathing them, and helping with their evening wind-down. Doing the laundry. Tidying up after the kids and keeping the diaper bag/gear stocked. Assisting with occasional errands to the grocery store, pharmacy, dry cleaner, and post office. Coordinating simple deliveries/repairs when needed. The nanny would be expected to take care of a third child (infant) in approximately a year. Increase in pay would be discussed closer to that time.

Ideal nanny:

The family is looking for a reliable nanny who is calm, understanding, and nurturing. The ideal candidate will be super organized, proactive, and able to bring a balanced structure to a lively afternoon/evening routine. They should have prior experience with toddlers/preschoolers, confidence in managing multiple children, and the ability to navigate transitions and routines skillfully. Looking for someone who is able to anticipate needs and stay one step ahead. The ideal candidate must be comfortable driving the children in either a family vehicle or their own. Nanny is required to have their own vehicle in the event the family vehicle is in use.

Willingness to supervise and/or swim with the children is essential, as the family has a pool in their backyard.

About the children:

This 3-year-old is curious, affectionate, kind, playful, and full of energy. She loves reading and listening to music, particularly Taylor Swift. She particulates in extracurricular activities such as occupational therapy, swimming classes, and gym

This 2-year-old is sweet, adventurous, silly, stubborn, and cuddly. He loves trains and participates in extracurricular activities like gym and swimming.

About the parents:

Both parents are warm, organized, and hands-on. They are firm but kind with a discipline approach centered on clear boundaries, consistency, and positive reinforcement. This stay-at-home Mom is a warm but firm, results-oriented person. In her eyes, she and the nanny are on the same team, and she is looking for someone to be the warmer balance of herself. The parents focus on setting expectations for their children upfront, giving simple choices, and following through calmly. The children understand that their parents and nanny are on the same team; if the nanny says no, then so do the parents. This house does not believe in undermining authority.
