The Company:
The Naloxone Project
The Naloxone Project is a national medical and public health focused nonprofit based out of Golden, Colorado. We focus on addressing the opioid crisis and preventing opioid overdose deaths. Our mission is to create a medical system and society that has no stigma, provides naloxone, and saves lives, one that is equitable and sustainable.
The Naloxone Project focuses primarily on hospitals and ensuring all hospitals, labor and delivery units, emergency departments, EMS and clinics distribute naloxone to at-risk patients, placing naloxone in patients’ hands prior to the departure from the hospital and at the time of need. More information is available online at www.naloxoneproject.com.
The Tennessee-based Project Manager will work with our L&D/OB units on an 18-month Universal Postpartum Naloxone Project funded by the State of Tennessee Department of Health.
The Grant
To address the ongoing opioid crisis and reduce opioid related deaths, the Tennessee
Department of Health (TDH) plans to implement a Universal Postpartum Naloxone
project. This project seeks to preserve life and families by reducing opioid-related
overdose deaths through universal opioid misuse education and access to naloxone for
all postpartum women upon discharge from the hospital after delivery. As part of this
effort, each new mother will be offered a family first aid kit containing two doses of intranasal
naloxone, fentanyl test strips, and traditional first aid items such as a thermometer,
band-aids, gauze, and a CPR mask. A key objective of the project is to normalize
naloxone as a standard household item, making it as routine and accessible as other
basic first aid supplies.
