The Mountaineer, a trusted community newspaper serving Haywood County and Western North Carolina, is seeking a Website & Digital Publishing Specialist to help manage and grow our digital presence across web, mobile, and advertising platforms.
This position is ideal for someone who is creative, organized, tech-savvy, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift quickly. The successful candidate will work closely with multiple departments, including editorial, advertising, marketing, and production, to ensure our digital products remain engaging, functional, and effective for readers and advertisers alike.
Responsibilities- Maintain and update website content using a content management system (CMS)
- Build and manage digital layouts and content containers/pages
- Assist with website presentation, organization, and user experience
- Monitor and interpret website analytics and audience data
- Manage digital advertising placement and campaigns
- Collaborate with editorial and advertising teams on sponsored and promotional content
- Troubleshoot website-related issues and communicate with support teams when necessary
- Assist with newsletters, digital publishing workflows, and audience engagement initiatives
- Help maintain visual consistency across digital platforms
- Working knowledge of website management and CMS platforms (WordPress experience preferred)
- Familiarity with HTML and basic web structure concepts
- Ability to understand and interpret website analytics and digital performance metrics
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and Canva
- Knowledge of digital advertising platforms such as Google Ad Manager
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to multitask and work effectively under deadlines
- Comfortable collaborating across departments in a team-oriented environment
- Experience in publishing, media, marketing, or digital communications is a plus
