What are the responsibilities and job description for the Home Fragrance Merchandiser position at The Moret Group?
We are seeking a highly creative and commercially driven Home Fragrance Merchandiser to join our team on-site. This role is responsible for developing, curating, and presenting trend-forward home fragrance collections across both private label programs and nationally recognized licensed brands.
This is a unique hybrid role for someone who understands how to translate design into product that sells — combining strong aesthetic sensibility with sharp business instincts and global sourcing knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
Product Development & Merchandising
Develop and curate home fragrance collections including candles, reed diffusers, and room sprays
Build assortments tailored to specific retail channels (mass, off-price, food and drug)
Partner with design teams to execute cohesive, market-ready product lines
Drive product decisions across vessel, fragrance direction, packaging, and price architecture
Sourcing & Supplier Management
Identify, evaluate, and partner with global suppliers across China, Vietnam, India, US, and other regions
Source vessels, components, fragrance oils, and packaging to meet design and cost targets
Negotiate pricing, MOQs, and timelines to achieve competitive FOB structures
Collaborate with factories to develop custom products and packaging solutions
Ensure product meets quality standards, compliance requirements, and retailer specifications
Manage timelines from development through production to ensure on-time delivery
Brand & Licensing Execution
Work across both private label and licensed brands to ensure brand integrity and differentiation
Interpret brand DNA into commercially viable home fragrance collections
Ensure all product aligns with licensor guidelines and approval processes
Sales & Buyer Engagement
Prepare and present collections to retail buyers and internal stakeholders
Create compelling product stories that connect design, trend, and value
Partner with sales team to drive account growth and secure new business opportunities
Trend & Market Analysis
Monitor home décor, fragrance, and fashion trends to inform product direction
Analyze competitive landscape and identify whitespace opportunities
Translate insights into actionable product strategies
Pricing & Commercial Strategy
Develop assortments that meet target FOBs, margins, and retail price points
Balance cost, design, and perceived value to maximize sell-through
Adjust product mix based on retailer feedback and performance
Qualifications
3–7 years experience in merchandising, product development, or sourcing within home décor, fragrance, or consumer goods
Strong understanding of global sourcing and supplier management
Experience working with factories and negotiating costs and timelines
Proven ability to develop product that is both trend-right and commercially successful
Experience working with licensed brands is highly preferred
Strong understanding of retail channels including mass, off-price, food & drug, and specialty
Excellent presentation and communication skills
Highly organized with strong attention to detail
