The Mom Project is seeking detail-oriented and experienced Senior Staff Accountant to join our nonprofit client's finance team. This role plays a critical part in daily, weekly, and monthly, accounting operations, with a strong focus on revenue processing, general ledger reconciliations, and financial reporting.

You’ll work cross-functionally with both the finance and development teams, particularly around the cash receipts process. The ideal candidate is independent, analytical, and comfortable working in a nonprofit-like environment, though direct nonprofit experience isn’t required.
Location & Schedule:
- Hybrid: 3 days onsite, 2 days remote
- West Loop, Chicago
- Daily
- Review and reconcile coding of lockbox cash receipts; prepare data for import into Financial Edge (FE).
- Gather documentation supporting cash receipts coding.
- Update processed donations based on changes (e.g., donor designations, chargebacks, refunds).
- Weekly
- Import credit card transactions into FE.
- Review and process finance mail/emails (primarily estate-related).
- Complete EFT and wire authorizations.
- Forward vendor invoices for approval and processing.
- Monthly
- Reconcile cash receipts coding between Financial Edge and Salesforce (SF).
- Perform bank reconciliations for lockbox, money market fund, and sweep accounts.
- Import and reconcile flow-through gifts; compile documentation for recipients.
- Complete reconciliation of investments and record related journal entries.
- Calculate and record stock donations in FE..
- Calculate and record net assets released from restrictions.
- Prepare and post pledge receivables and accounts receivable..
- Maintain inventory tracking and prepare related schedules.
- Process and record unique in-kind gifts.
- Prepare the first draft of the monthly financial reporting package.
- Experience: 3–7 years of experience in public or corporate accounting.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred; coursework in Financial Accounting is a plus.
- Certifications: CPA strongly preferred but not required.
- Technical Skills:
- Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge highly preferred.
- Experience with Salesforce NPSP highly preferred.
- Familiarity with nonprofit or fund accounting is a plus (not required).
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively.
