About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Fabrication Specialist to join an established structural steel fabrication company in the Rochester, NY area.
This position focuses on fabricating railings, stairs, miscellaneous metals, and structural steel components. We're looking for someone who can read fabrication drawings, perform accurate layout and fit-up, and take projects from raw materials through finished assemblies.
This is not a welding-only position. The ideal candidate enjoys all aspects of metal fabrication, including cutting, bending, fitting, assembling, welding, and working with steel materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Fabricate steel railings, stairs, handrails, and miscellaneous structural components.
- Read and interpret fabrication blueprints and shop drawings.
- Perform accurate measurements, layout, fit-up, and assembly.
- Cut, bend, drill, grind, and weld steel components.
- Perform pipe bending and assist with sheet-metal bending operations.
- Inspect finished assemblies for accuracy and quality.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and shop fabrication equipment.
- Assist with steel material handling and general shop operations.
- Support fabrication of structural beams and columns as needed.
- Work at both Rochester and Macedon shop locations based on production needs.
Qualifications
- Previous hands-on experience in steel fabrication, railing fabrication, stair fabrication, or miscellaneous metals.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and blueprints.
- Strong layout, fit-up, assembly, and tape-measure skills.
- Experience with cutting, bending, grinding, and metalworking equipment.
- Welding experience with the ability to complete fabricated assemblies.
- Comfortable handling steel materials and performing various shop duties.
- Ability to work independently and produce accurate finished products.
- Reliable, mechanically inclined, and willing to assist across different fabrication processes.
Preferred: Experience with pipe bending, sheet-metal bending, structural steel fabrication, or CNC/plasma cutting equipment.
