What are the responsibilities and job description for the Archaeological Field & Lab Technician position at The Mohegan Tribe of Indians Of Connecticut?
Summary of Job Description:
Incumbent in this position assists in archeological field projects, laboratory work and research projects under direction of the Archaeological Manager and Archaeological Laboratory & Collections Supervisor.
Minimum Requirements:
- Familiarity with southern New England Native American history and artifacts
- Demonstrated Organizational and record keeping skills
AND
- Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology or a related field, or current enrollment in an undergraduate degree program in Anthropology or a related field
OR
- High school diploma or GED
- Six (6) months cumulative experience in field archaeology in southern New England
- Experience in Mohegan archeology is preferred
- Three (3) months cumulative experience in an archaeological laboratory working on archaeology of southern New England. Experience in Mohegan lab work is preferred
AND
- Position requires extended periods of strenuous physical activity, including site clearing, shovel excavation, screening and back filling, as well as carrying equipment over distances in wooded and brush-filled areas
- Ability to perform Essential Duties with demands that include:
1. Lifting and/or moving up to 30 pounds, pushing/pulling, kneeling, climbing, crouching, and reaching
2. Ability to work in adverse outdoor conditions such as extreme heat and wetness
- Successful candidate must pass the background check in accordance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act (ICPA)
