Payroll Supervisor
Location: Bethesda, MD (Hybrid – 3 Days Onsite / 2 Days Remote)
Duration: Contract through November 2026 with potential extension or conversion to Direct Hire employee.
Salary: $48-50/HR

About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Supervisor to oversee and support complex payroll operations for a highly respected organization in the Bethesda, MD area. This role is ideal for a payroll professional with strong technical expertise, experience supporting government contracting environments, and a passion for ensuring payroll accuracy, compliance, and exceptional employee service.
The Payroll Supervisor will play a critical role in processing multi-state payrolls, supporting payroll tax compliance, responding to employee payroll inquiries, and maintaining the integrity of payroll operations. The ideal candidate will bring a proactive mindset, strong analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with HR, Finance, and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and process multi-state payrolls for full-time, part-time, seasonal, and contract employees.
- Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Assist with payroll tax filings and related reporting requirements.
- Support internal and external audit requests and provide payroll documentation as needed.
- Review and validate employee payroll records, including new hire setup and employee changes.
- Assist with employee offboarding and final payroll processing.
- Research, troubleshoot, and resolve payroll-related issues and inquiries.
- Process payroll adjustments, corrections, terminations, and other special payroll transactions.
- Generate payroll reports to support business operations, financial reporting, and benefit administration.
- Partner closely with HR and Finance teams to ensure accurate payroll data and compliance.
- Support payroll controls, process improvements, and best practices.
- Assist with Workers’ Compensation administration and reporting.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of employee and payroll information.
- Support internal Payroll Help Desk functions and employee support activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 10 years of payroll processing experience.
- 5 years of payroll experience within a government contracting environment.
- Experience with Dayforce (Ceridian).
- Experience with Deltek Costpoint.
- Extensive experience processing multi-state payrolls.
- Strong knowledge of payroll tax regulations, compliance requirements, and reporting.
- Experience supporting payroll audits and internal controls.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification.
- Experience supporting multiple payroll cycles and complex payroll environments.
- Strong understanding of payroll controls, labor reporting, and compliance requirements within government contracting organizations.
