Our client, a EV Manufacture located in Southfieled, MI is seeking a Technical Specialist, Functional Safety Engineer with strong hands-on experience in functional safety engineering within the automotive industry, specifically in the context of ISO 26262 at an OEM or Tier 1 supplier.

Responsibilities
- Lead the development of functional safety system requirements and functional decomposition for automotive systems
- Review and approve HARA, Functional Safety Requirements, Technical Safety Requirements, and validation test plans
- Contribute to defining and confirming vehicle architecture from a functional safety perspective
- Review and approve Development Interface Agreements and other functional safety documentation with suppliers and external partners
- Lead the development of functional safety processes, tools, and methodologies
- Oversee functional safety readiness activities, metrics, and program tracking
- Lead development of SOTIF requirements for autonomous driving systems and core subsystems
- Define functional safety concepts for systems, hardware, and software in accordance with ISO 26262
- Collaborate closely with hardware, software, design, and validation teams to ensure compliance with safety requirements
- Participate in safety-driven decision-making at various levels of management
- Lead hazard analysis and safety concept development in collaboration with cross-functional teams
- Support functional safety validation testing activities
- Work closely with internal teams and suppliers to define functional safety interfaces across project stakeholders
- Operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment with minimal direct oversight while maintaining strong collaboration across teams
Qualifications
- Extensive, in-depth knowledge of ISO 26262 and proven experience delivering major functional safety work products
- 8 years of experience as a Functional Safety Engineer or in a related role
- At least 1 year of experience performing SOTIF analysis and developing related work products
- Demonstrated success leading functional safety analyses of systems or products
- Experience supporting external or third-party functional safety reviews
- Strong understanding of OEM and supplier safety responsibility allocation and the ability to communicate technical concepts across all organizational levels
- Experience with functional safety tools such as Medini and APIS IQ
- Experience with requirements management tools such as Jama
- Strong commitment to promoting safety across all levels of hardware and software development
- Excellent written, verbal, and organizational communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in Agile development environments
- Knowledge of CMMI and Automotive SPICE and their role in product development quality
- Experience with embedded system hardware and/or software development
Education
Bachelor’s degree required in an engineering discipline such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering.
Advanced degrees are preferred.
