Job purpose
The Mental Health Association in Jefferson County, Inc. (MHAJC) is a non-profit peer-to-peer agency. For the past 65 years MHAJC has been committed to providing individualized services in a community-based setting that promotes recovery, dignity, personal growth, self-determination, and health for those with a mental health diagnosis.
MHAJC is looking for an Executive Director that will report to the Board of Directors and is charged with implementing policies and program oversight of MHAJC for the benefit of individuals with mental health and/or substance use disorders, their families, and the community. The Executive Director is appointed by the Board of Directors and is administratively responsible to the Board.
Duties and responsibilities
· Provide strategic direction and leadership to the organization.
· Develop and implement plans to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
· Lead fundraising efforts to secure necessary resources.
· Foster positive relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, partners, and community members.
· Oversee financial management and budgeting processes.
· Manage staff and provide guidance and support to team members.
· Stay current on industry trends and best practices to ensure the organization remains competitive and relevant.

Qualifications

The Executive Director is a systems thinker who is customer focused and goal driven. This individual identifies relevant information and helps transform this information into individual and organizational knowledge and learning. The chief executive is action-oriented and innovative. Executive Director translates broad goals into achievable steps. Executive Director anticipates and solves problems and takes advantage of opportunities, is a self-starter and team player.
As MHAJC’s leader, this position requires an individual with knowledge of and experience in management and administration. The position requires demonstrated experience in integrating and coordinating diverse areas of management.
Knowledge in the following areas is required: human services, finance, human resources, oral and written communications, planning and evaluation, and governance.
Some experience in the field of philanthropy, non-profit management and governance, mental health, public policy work, and community relations is preferred. Some general knowledge of fund development is also preferred.
A high level of personal skills is required to make formal, persuasive presentations to groups and to deal effectively with people from all segments of the community.
The individual must be comfortable with diversity and respectful of a wide range of faiths, beliefs and experiences.
: The Executive Director possesses the skills and implements the functions of a leader. S/he shares MHAJC’s values, mission and vision. This individual deals effectively with demanding situations and designs and implements interventions. : The Executive Director manages continuity, change and transition. Experience:
· Proven track record of successful leadership in a similar role
· Extensive experience in strategic planning and implementation
· Strong financial management skills
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
· Experience in fundraising and resource development
· Ability to build and maintain strong relationships
· Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and compliance
· Experience working with a board of directors
· Proficiency in organizational development and change management
· Bachelor's degree in business, non-profit management, or a related field
· At least 5 years of experience.
· Proven track record of successfully leading and managing a team
· Strong financial acumen and experience managing budgets
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Working conditions
This position will work in an office-based setting and come in regular contact with our patients.
Physical requirements
· Ability to quickly address any emergent issues without losing focus on task at hand.· The employee must have full sight and hearing with fluency in the English language. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. · The employee frequently is required to stand, walk and sit. Must be able to sit for long periods of time.· Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a copy machine, scanner, computer printer, etc.
