What are the responsibilities and job description for the Account Director, Medtech Marketing & Advertising position at The Matchstick Group?
The Matchstick Group is a medical device marketing agency. It's all we do. We partner with venture-backed startups, PE carve-outs, and global manufacturers to build the brands, launch the products, and tell the stories that move medtech forward — across orthopedics, cardiology, neurology, women's health, capital equipment, and OEM. Our proprietary methodologies — STRIKE™ (brand naming), LAUNCH™ (brand transformation), and SIGNAL™ (portfolio communication architecture) — power some of the most strategically demanding engagements in the industry.
We're hiring an Account Director to own senior client relationships across our growing portfolio. You'll be the strategic counterpart to C-suite and VP-level medtech leaders, the connective tissue between clients and our strategy, creative, and digital teams, and the quality gatekeeper who ensures every deliverable we put in front of a client is on-strategy, on-brand, and flawless.
This is not a project coordination role. This is the role for someone who can sit across the table from a CEO planning a major launch, ask the questions no one else thought to ask, and translate the answers into a path forward.
- Lead 4–6 medtech client engagements simultaneously, from brand strategy through launch activation
- Build deep, trust-based relationships with C-suite, marketing leadership, and investor stakeholders
- Own scope, budget, and timeline integrity across each engagement
- Direct cross-functional teams (strategy, creative, digital, research partners) to deliver work that meets TMG's standard
- Serve as the final quality check before any deliverable reaches a client
- Identify organic growth opportunities within existing accounts and contribute to new business pitches
- Mentor project managers and junior account staff
- 8 years in agency account leadership, with at least 3 years in medtech, life sciences, or regulated healthcare
- Experience leading complex, multi-stakeholder engagements — multi-divisional rollouts, global launches, or commercial transformations a strong plus
- Fluency in the language of brand strategy, positioning, naming, and integrated marketing
- An obsessive attention to detail and a track record of running tight, well-governed accounts
- Confidence with senior executives and comfort navigating ambiguity, politics, and pressure
- Excellent writing and presentation skills
- A bias toward ownership — when something needs to happen, you make it happen
- Direct experience in surgical, OEM, capital equipment, or DTC medical device categories
- Fluency with FDA pathways (510(k), De Novo, PMA) and how they shape commercial launch
- Background with M&A integration, brand consolidations, or commercial transformations
A specialist agency where senior people do senior work — no layers, no politics. A focused portfolio in the most consequential industry on earth. Competitive comp, performance bonus, and full benefits.
