Position Overview

As a Carpenter II, you will play a critical role in constructing, repairing, and preserving a wide range of facilities across parks, maintenance yards, nature centers, and public-use buildings. This is an opportunity to apply advanced carpentry skills while contributing to meaningful, visible projects.

About the Division
The Facilities Management Division is a team of over 100 professionals responsible for maintaining the Department’s facilities, infrastructure, fleet, and major building systems. With an annual budget exceeding $13 million, the division supports both daily operations and long-term Capital Improvement Projects (CIP), balancing the demands of aging infrastructure with new construction and upgrades.

Within the division, the Carpentry Shop is a collaborative team focused on park renovations, structural repairs, and preventative maintenance. Projects include upgrading park buildings and shelters, and maintaining essential infrastructure across diverse environments.

Skilled Carpentry & Construction

  • Perform advanced carpentry work to construct, maintain, and renovate facilities and structures.
  • Execute framing, installation, and finishing work ensuring all structures are square, level, plumb, and code-compliant.
  • Measure, cut, drill, and shape materials with precision.
  • Install and repair doors, windows, roofing systems, and structural components.
  • Fabricate and install cabinetry, laminates, and detailed finish work.
  • Perform concrete work including pouring and finishing.

Project Execution & Planning

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to complete projects accurately.
  • Assess repair needs and determine appropriate solutions.
  • Estimate materials, tools, and timelines required for assigned work.

Tools, Equipment & Safety

  • Safely operate tools and equipment including skid loaders, forklifts, man lifts, and scaffolding.
  • Transport materials, tools, and team members to job sites.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety standards and regulations.


  1. High School diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
  2. Completion of an approved carpentry apprentice program or four (4) years of progressively responsible carpentry experience.
  3. Two (2) years of carpentry experience at the journey level.
  4. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total six (6) years.
  5. Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.
  6. Depending on area of assignment, a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements may be required and must be in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations.
  7. Pass Commission medical examination.
Class Specification: Carpenter II

May be subject to medical, drug and alcohol testing.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of carpentry practices, building codes, and safety regulations (MOSH/OSHA).
  • Experience leading or directing work activities of a trades crew.

Working Conditions
Occasionally performs work indoors and outdoors; exposure to varied weather conditions, confined spaces, heights, dirt, noise, dust, and fumes. Must be available to work during emergencies. Positions in this class occasionally remains in a stationary position, moves about inside the office and outside, operates vehicles, tools and equipment, ascend and descends ladders, positions self to complete manual work, pulls and uses fingers to perform carpentry work, moves equipment, tools and objects weighing up to 75 pounds.

Salary : $48,635 - $86,135
