Job Description
If so, Prince George’s County Parks and Recreation is the place for you. The Southern Region Parks Division (SRPD) is seeking Seasonal Athletic Fields Maintenance Workers to support the maintenance, preparation, and safety of athletic fields across multiple park locations. This position plays a key role in ensuring fields are properly maintained, safe for play, and ready for practices, games, and special events. This is an ideal opportunity for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, operating equipment, working as part of a team, and gaining hands-on experience in athletic field and grounds maintenance.

- Perform routine and skilled athletic field maintenance and renovation tasks
- Inspect athletic fields to ensure safe playing conditions and report hazards
- Mow, edge, line, drag infields, and blow debris from athletic fields
- Assist with sod removal and installation, brush clearing, and trail repairs
- Prepare and maintain fields for practices, games, tournaments, and events
- Install, move, and maintain bleachers, goals, and field equipment
- Operate a variety of equipment including trucks, tractors with attachments, zero
- turn mowers, utility vehicles, and walk-behind maintenance equipment
- Perform general grounds maintenance such as leaf collection, litter cleanup, fencing repair, pruning, and snow removal
- Communicate field conditions, equipment needs, and project concerns to supervisors
- Work independently or as part of a team depending on assignment
- Drive Commission vehicles upon completion of required training, as assigned
- Follow established safety procedures, departmental guidelines, and maintenance standards
- Perform related duties as assigned
Required
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods
- Ability to lift, bend, stand, walk, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Availability to work assigned schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
Preferred
- Previous experience in athletic field maintenance, grounds maintenance, or general labor
- Familiarity with hand tools and power equipment
- Interest in athletic field quality, safety, and sports support
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic athletic field maintenance and safety practices
- Ability to safely operate tools, equipment, and vehicles
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to field quality
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and communication skills
- Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions

Work Hours
Work schedules for this position are either Wednesday-Saturday or Sunday-Wednesday with work hours from 6:00am – 2:45pm. There may also be instances which include evenings, weekends, and holiday work. Seasonal hours are not guaranteed and may fluctuate based on program needs.
Working Conditions / Environment
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to weather conditions, noise, dirt, and physical activity including lifting, bending, standing, and walking for extended periods.
