What are the responsibilities and job description for the Information Technology System Analyst position at The Marker Group?
Job Title: IT System Analyst
Company Overview
The Marker Group is a prominent national company based in northwest Houston, specializing in defense litigation support services, including medical record collection, analysis, and review for complex legal cases.
Position Scope
The IT System Analyst is responsible for support a high-performance hybrid environment centered on Linux-based virtualization (Proxmox), containerization, and complex networking. While this is a high-level systems role, it is set within a traditional on-premises business environment; we are looking for someone whose expertise was built in physical server environments rather than exclusively in the cloud or via remote-only administration. This role requires an "infrastructure-as-code" mindset, using independent judgment to optimize server health, manage secure VLAN routing, and integrate cross-platform services.
Core Responsibilities
- Linux Infrastructure: Deploy, configure, and maintain Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Debian, RHEL) across physical and virtual environments.
- Virtualization & Scaling: Manage Proxmox VE clusters, including high-availability (HA) setups, live migrations, and Ceph/ZFS storage management.
- Hybrid Integration: Bridge the gap between Microsoft hardware and software platforms by integrating Linux servers with Active Directory (LDAP/SSSD) for centralized authentication.
- Advanced Networking: Architect and support robust network topologies including VLAN tagging, inter-VLAN routing, VPN tunnels, and redundant firewall configurations.
- Containerization & Services: Orchestrate containers (Docker/LXC) and manage database environments (PostgreSQL, MariaDB, or MySQL).
- Security & Monitoring: Conduct deep-dive log analysis, manage firewall rules (pfSense, OPNsense, or enterprise equivalents), and implement proactive health monitoring.
Technical Requirements
- Linux Expertise: 5 years of hands-on experience with Linux (CLI-heavy). Proficiency in shell scripting (Bash/Python) for automation is highly preferred.
- Virtualization: Proven experience with Proxmox or KVM-based hypervisors, specifically involving clustering and shared storage.
- Networking Stack: Deep understanding of Layer 3 switching, firewall logic, and network security protocols.
- Windows Support: Competency in MS AD management (DNS, DHCP, GPO) to support a hybrid environment.
- Data Integrity: Proficient with backup solutions (Proxmox Backup Server, Veeam, or similar) and Disaster Recovery (DR) planning.
- Hardware: Experience racking servers, troubleshooting hardware failures, and managing lifecycle upgrades.
Work Requirements
- Schedule: Monday–Friday with required occasional after-hours, early morning, evening, and weekend work as needed.
- Location: Onsite position in northwest Houston, with occasional work at our downtown colocation facility.
- Environment: Must have prior experience working in an office setting.
