Available Position:
Grade 7 Science Teacher
The Seventh Grade Science Teacher, under the direction of the administration, and in collaboration with the grade level team and other science teachers, will create an effective classroom environment that promotes student learning and personal growth; will plan and make instructional decisions based on student needs and learning outcomes; will provide experiential, collaborative, and hands-on learning opportunities that are challenging and engaging for every student; will motivate students to become lifelong learners; will promote character development by teaching the Magellan core values of respect, responsibility, and integrity; will develop students’ oral and written communication skills needed to be successful leaders in high school and our global community.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- teaching science using an interdisciplinary, project-based approach whenever possible and appropriate.
- teaching, enriching, and extending the NC Standard Course of Study.
- developing effective lesson plans and instructional materials.
- providing personalized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
- using a variety of creative and engaging instructional strategies, such as inquiry, student-led discussions, and project/problem-based learning to promote critical thinking, student agency, and leadership skills.
- infusing social-emotional learning into the daily instructional program.
- establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior necessary in achieving an optimal learning atmosphere.
- using both formative and summative assessment strategies to evaluate students’ academic growth and adjust instruction accordingly.
- keeping appropriate/accurate records and preparing progress reports and report cards.
- communicating with parents through conferences, phone calls, and/or emails to develop trust and discuss students’ progress.
- collaborating and planning regularly with other science teachers.
- serving as an integral member of the 7th grade team.
- continually seeking opportunities to grow professionally through in-service education activities.
- performing other duties as assigned by the school administrators.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Valid teaching license for 7th grade science
- Experience teaching middle school and/or high school science
- Strong knowledge of the NC Standard Course of Study
- Strong knowledge of assessment strategies
- Strong knowledge of evidence-based instructional practices that challenge advanced learners
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Effective interpersonal skills
