What You'll Do

The Dispensary Technician supports the medical cannabis dispensing operations of the dispensary under the supervision of a Connecticut-licensed pharmacist (either on-site or remote). This role is responsible for accurately and securely preparing, labeling, verifying, and dispensing medical cannabis products to registered qualifying patients and caregivers in compliance with all Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) regulations.

The Dispensary Technician ensures precise order handling, effective communication with the remote pharmacist, and strict adherence to patient confidentiality and legal standards.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Handle all aspects of medical and retail cannabis dispensing, including receiving, verifying, preparing, packaging, and labeling customer and patient orders.
  • Verify patient registration and physician certification in compliance with CT DCP medical cannabis program requirements.
  • Provide professional, personalized service to all customers and patients, ensuring a welcoming and educational experience that aligns with company standards and state compliance.
  • Support sales floor operations, including assisting customers with product information, making appropriate recommendations, and processing retail transactions.
  • Collaborate closely with the remote pharmacist for all medical order verification, clinical review, and approval prior to dispensing.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant records of all dispensing activities, inventory transactions, and labeling in accordance with CT DCP regulations and company SOPs.
  • Perform inventory control functions including receiving product shipments, verifying counts, conducting cycle counts, performing reconciliations, and maintaining up-to-date stock levels in BioTrack or other DCP-approved systems.
  • Ensure all cannabis products are stored securely and labeled correctly, maintaining compliance with DCP security and inventory protocols.
  • Participate in retail merchandising, product rotation, and maintaining organized sales and storage areas to ensure accuracy and product integrity.
  • Assist with patient and customer education on product selection, dosage, and administration under pharmacist guidance.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, addressing inquiries or concerns in a courteous, professional, and compliant manner.
  • Promptly report any discrepancies, product recalls, or adverse events to the pharmacist and Store Manager.
  • Ensure full compliance with HIPAA, DCP regulations, and company confidentiality policies.
  • Support remote pharmacy and operational functions including documentation, verification workflows, and coordination with pharmacist oversight.
  • Stay current on Connecticut cannabis laws, policy updates, product knowledge, and emerging market trends.
  • Assist management and team leads with operational support, sales initiatives, compliance-related activities and other duties as needed.

EducationRequirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • CT Dispensary Technician Certification (or eligibility to obtain) required under DCP regulations.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a pharmacy, dispensary, or healthcare environment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Connecticut Medical Marijuana Program and DCP compliance standards.
  • Experience with BioTrack or other compliant inventory management software preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and labeling.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with patients, caregivers, and staff.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and compliance in all activities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to push, pull, or lift a minimum of 50 pounds as required.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and repetitive hand motions for labeling, packaging, and order processing.
  • Ability to lift, carry, or move up to 25 pounds regularly, and occasionally up to 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Must have manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office and labeling equipment.
  • Must be able to visually inspect products and labeling for accuracy and compliance.
  • Comfortable working in a secure, fast-paced retail and medical environment with controlled substances.
  • Ability to remain focused and detail-oriented in a regulated environment with frequent interruptions.

Work Environment

  • On-site position within a Connecticut-licensed medical cannabis dispensary facility.
  • Involves working evenings, weekends, or holidays as required by operational needs.
  • Exposure to standard retail and medical facility conditions, including varying temperatures and moderate noise levels.
  • Must comply with all security, safety, and DCP inspection protocols.
