PRIMARY FOCUS:

The responsibility of the Shipper is to ensure the safe and efficient movement of product within the warehouse and truck. The position will also be responsible for performing in a manner that protects food safety and the quality of LPC's product.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follow instruction from the Distribution Supervisor and/or Lead who will determine the priority of job duties.
  • Update of inventory count, report, and reconcile of finished product in coolers as indicated by Supervisor or Lead.
  • Organization and housekeeping (sweeping and emptying trash) of coolers daily or as needed.
  • Maintain order and rotation of aged inventory and partial pallets.
  • Answer calls from drivers on the radio phone provided, confirm correct shipment number (TR#, TRO#, SO#) before loading truck, document shipment/receival times on Log, assign dock doors, fill out truck inspection form.
  • Ensure fast and accurate load and offload of trucks and receiving to minimize wait times and product temperature abuse.
  • Assemble orders based on the information from the picking slips posted in the shipping office.
  • Relocate packaged potatoes on pallets from the packaging area to the storage coolers.
  • Confirm and adhere to all established company policies and procedures and government legislations pertaining to transportation of dangerous goods and occupational health and safety.
  • Attention to detail on tags and paperwork.
  • Perform final product inspection prior to shipping of finished goods.
  • Communicate any shipping issues to Distribution Supervisor and/or Lead.
  • Other duties as assigned.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Forklift Certification would be an asset.
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to speak, read and write English is required.
  • Lift up to 50lbs of goods repeatedly.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish would be an asset.

KEY COMPETENCIES:

  • An aptitude for working with numbers and detailed paperwork.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Can work under minimal supervision and in a team setting.
  • Effective communication skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear verbal communications, and see machines, product and co-workers. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, bend, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl or twist.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Exertion of physical strength to push, pull, move and lift objects up to 50 pounds from one level to another at varying heights. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee may occasionally experience extreme heat, cold, dust, and odors. The work environment can by noisy and has typical hazards associated with closeness to moving mechanical parts and exposure to powered machinery, which LPC take steps to mitigate in compliance with OSHA requirements.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must possess the ability to read, analyze and interpret business and technical documents, flow charts, budget information, procedure manuals and other instructions documents; the ability to prepare required routine reports and correspondence; ability to communicate effectively with others, using skill and diplomacy and have the ability to work with all levels of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Must possess the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, using whole numbers/decimals and the ability to apply concepts of business math and statistics to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITIES:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram format. Must possess strong knowledge, understanding and experience in various problem-solving and participatory management techniques.

TECHNICIAL ABILITIES:

Must possess knowledge and experience in automated systems and terminology and the ability to develop and interpret related reports using ERP, spreadsheet, word processing and graphics software. Requires the ability to operate a variety of standard business machines, such as a computer and keyboard, a calculator, telephone, FAX, photocopier and so on.

Hours:

This role operates on a 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. shift, with overtime available based on operational needs.

SAFE QUALITY FOODS:

All staff are responsible to report food safety and quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.

In the event key personnel responsible for this role is unavailable, an appropriately trained backup has been assigned to cover the duties to ensure the integrity of the SQF System.
