What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Control Technician position at The Little Potato Company?
Primary Focus:
This position is accountable to carry out critical inspections in accordance with standards and procedures, and that they are reported and documented as per The Little Potato Company Quality Control program. This position implements, maintains and improves the Quality Control program to focus on product integrity and reliability. The position will also be responsible for performing in a manner that protects food safety and the quality of LPC's product. Should the QC Technician be absent, the Sr. Inventory Control Supervisor will serve as backup.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Quality Control & Testing
- Perform in-line quality checks and record the results manually.
- Perform finished products testing to adhere to applicable LPC quality standards.
- At receiving, check samples and perform QC testing, recording the results in WIS.
- Perform product inspections on a timely basis to meet LPC spec.
- Inspect all in-bound and out-bound products.
- Confirm that process products meet applicable regulatory and quality standards prior to packaging line.
- Maintain proper documentation and record all QC checks.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with sizing line and wash line operators.
- Inform the Production Supervisor of all quality issues immediately and recommend corrective action.
- Prior to machine set up, check the production schedule and confirm with Production Supervisor or to ensure we are operating with correct materials.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure inventory storage areas are organized and comply with safety and cleanliness standards.
- Follow and enforce company safety policies and procedures in all inventory-related activities.
- Adherence to safety protocols and regulations is mandatory. This role must ensure that all team members follow safety guidelines to prevent incidents and injuries.
- This role must ensure that all project activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental and labor laws.
- All staff are responsible to report food safety and quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.
Continuous Improvement:
- Assist in identifying opportunities for process improvements.
- Contribute to product traceability; audit and recommend improvements to quality system and procedures.

Qualifications and Key Competencies:
- Experience in the food industry is preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Basic computer knowledge (Ex: Microsoft Office - Excel, Word).
- Team player with good interpersonal skills and willingness to learn.
- Positive and responsible individual capable of working effectively with limited supervision.
- High attention to detail is required.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
Work Environment:
- Work will take place primarily on the plant floor with exposure to varying temperatures and equipment noise.
- Occasional administrative work involving shift reports and communications using digital systems.
- Use of PPE (hairnets, safety shoes, hearing protection) is required.
- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee may be subject to some discomforts, such as extreme heat, cold, dust, odors, noise, and hazards, such as closeness to moving mechanical parts and exposure to powered machinery.
Physical Demands:
- Mobility: Requires standing, walking, and movement throughout the plant for the duration of the shift.
- Situational Awareness: Must maintain high awareness of surroundings and safety practices in an operational environment.
- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee is occasionally required to sit, bend, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl or twist. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Exertion of physical strength to push, pull, move and lift objects up to 25 pounds from one level to another at varying heights. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Language Skills:
- Must possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret business and technical documents, flow charts, budget information, procedure manuals, and similar materials.
- Must be proficient in the English language, with the ability to understand and communicate clearly in both written and verbal forms.
- Must be able to prepare required routine reports and correspondence and communicate effectively with others using skill and diplomacy.
- Must have the ability to work with all levels of the organization.
Reasoning Abilities:
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram format. Must possess strong knowledge, understanding and experience in various problem-solving and participatory management techniques.
Hours
- Standard shift runs from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with additional overtime hours as business needs arise.
