We are currently seeking a person who identifies strongly with our mission and core values to join our team in Seattle, WA as an Optometrist, Low Vision for our Low Vision Clinic.  The ideal candidate must have a Doctor of Optometry degree, be licensed in the State of WA, and have an NPI.  For the chosen candidate, this position will be onsite four days of the week with the opportunity for one day of working from home. 

 

 

Purpose:

The purpose of this position is to provide comprehensive functional vision assessments to include prescription of optical and non-optical devices to individuals experiencing vision  impairment, as well as collaborating with different rehab specialists to support the best functional outcome for the individuals in a secondary care environment.  

Responsibilities:

  • • Responsible for utilizing functional vision evaluation instruments to assess visual acuity, visual fields, contrast sensitivity function, color vision, stereopsis, visual perceptual and visual motor functioning, literacy skills in reading and writing, etc. as they relate to vision impairment and disability.
    • Educate the patient based on their eye diagnosis and how to best utilize functional vision including the use of prescriptive optical devices and/or additional tools.
    • Maximize the safety, function, independence and quality of life via the use of recommended low vision rehabilitation and adaptive equipment and techniques, to individuals who are legally blind and/or visually impaired.
    • Demonstrate, recommend and dispense low vision aids such as telescopic & microscopic lenses, magnifiers & other optical devices to aid low vision patients.
    • Document progress/outcomes and complete all reporting in accordance with established guidelines.
    • Maintain all electronic documentation (and paper as needed) in accordance with established guidelines and EMR compliance.
    • Complete all required forms and electronic reporting within established guidelines to maintain compliance for reimbursement.
    • Follow all established internal and WA state protocol for the dispensing of LV devices.
    • Provide clinics in off-site locations as scheduled.
    • Develop internship protocol and supervise interns as needed.
    • Stay current on trends and adaptive equipment in the field.
    • Collaborate and communicate effectively with team members, including office, Rehab, and others, in order to meet client, department and agency goals.
    • Participate in Department and Agency projects as needed to support Agency initiatives and Strategic Plan.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • • Graduation from an accredited college of optometry w/ a Doctor of Optometry degree required.
    • Current WA state license in Optometry required.
    • National Provider Identifier (NPI) required.
    • Regularly sit for a minimum of 2 hours at a time.
    • Regularly stand for a minimum of 2 hours at a time.
    • Regularly lift and carry equipment of 15 pounds or more.
    • Regularly perform repetitive motion of the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of and to apply the principles, theories, practices, and techniques of optometric practice, including anatomy, physiology, pathology, and mechanics of the human eye, visual processes, and detailed knowledge of ocular pharmacology and therapeutics.
    • Demonstrate excellent internal and external customer service.
    • Effectively communicate with colleagues, customers, vendors and/or outside agencies.
    • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
    • Demonstrate sensitivity to and appreciation of diverse viewpoints.
    • Effectively work with individuals of diverse backgrounds.

Salary : $98,767 - $160,000
