What are the responsibilities and job description for the Art Teacher and Consultant (Curriculum Design) position at The Learning Nest?

Job Overview
The Learning Nest, an enrichment and educational consulting company, is seeking a passionate and experienced Art Teacher/Consultant to inspire and educate students through innovative art instruction and support a new school's development of their art program. The ideal candidate will possess strong skills in curriculum development and instructional design, with the ability to create engaging content tailored to diverse learning needs. This role involves delivering high-quality art education, utilizing various teaching methodologies, and integrating modern learning management systems to enhance student engagement and achievement.

This is a temporary role (with potential to lead to other roles and opportunities) from December 2025 - June 2026, with the first 20-30 hours being planning and curriculum design, followed by curriculum implementation and facilitating weekly art classes for 3-4 classes (one day per week, 30-45 minutes per class and 1.5-2 hours of planning time weekly).

This is an excellent opportunity for a retired art teacher/consultant looking for extra income working only a few hours a week while making a meaningful impact on the development of a new school's art program.

This is a unique "fusion" position, serving as both an art education consultant (developing curriculum, procuring supplies, establishing systems, etc.) as well as a temporary art teacher.

Duties

  • Develop and implement comprehensive art curricula aligned with educational standards and student needs that align with the school's philosophy and goals.
  • Design engaging lesson plans utilizing instructional design principles
  • Incorporate education techniques for students in grades K - 8
  • Utilize project management skills to coordinate classroom activities, assessments, and student projects effectively.
  • Assess student progress through formative and summative evaluations, providing constructive feedback to support growth.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop innovative instructional materials and participate in curriculum development initiatives.
  • Plan, design, and implement art curriculum for a new school serving students in grades K-8.
  • Maintain effective communication with other consultants, educators, and school administration.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in teaching art or related visual arts disciplines with classroom experience required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Art Education, Curriculum Design; Master's Degree in a related field preferred.
  • Expertise in instructional design methodologies in the arts
  • Familiarity with art curriculum development and implementation
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present ideas clearly and engage students
  • Project management skills to organize lessons, assessments, and educational projects efficiently.
  • Proficiency in writing skills for content development and instructional materials creation.
  • Familiarity with Reggio Emilia teaching philosophy preferred.
  • Must be comfortable with ambiguity, flexible, and able to take initiative to develop a strong art curriculum while working collaboratively with school administration and educators. This is laying the groundwork for the school's art program from the ground up!
  • This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students’ artistic development while working within a collaborative educational environment that values creativity, innovation, and professional growth.
