The Learning Garden Childcare Center is a rapidly growing center in Slingerlands. We are looking for a dynamic Assistant Director to join our vibrant childcare team as a dedicated Daycare Leader, where your passion for nurturing and educating young children will help shape their early developmental journey. In this rewarding role, you will create a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for children of various ages, from infants to preschoolers. Your energy, compassion, and expertise will inspire young minds, foster growth, and promote positive behaviors. We are committed to providing a paid, professional environment where your skills in childhood development and caregiving can truly shine.

Weekly schedule will be a minimum of 40 hours Monday-Friday. Exact schedule to be coordinated with center director but applicants should be available between 7-5:30 to be available for either the opening or closing on the center each day.

Applicants must have a CDA or Associate's degree (or higher).

Duties

  • Supervise the care of children in a safe, clean, and stimulating environment, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being at all times.
  • Ensure that teachers are using age-appropriate activities that promote learning, creativity, and social skills, including arts, crafts, storytelling, and outdoor play.
  • Monitor children’s behavior, applying positive behavior management techniques to encourage cooperation and respect.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about their child's progress, milestones, and any concerns that arise.
  • Maintain accurate records of children’s development, attendance, and daily activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, including first aid procedures and emergency protocols.
  • Support children with special needs or disabilities by adapting activities and providing individualized care in collaboration with specialists and educators.
  • Collaborate with team members to create a welcoming, inclusive, and educational environment that supports early childhood education principles.
  • Ensure that classrooms are organized, sanitized, and stocked with necessary supplies to promote a productive learning space.
  • Follow all OCFS regulations to ensure the center stays in regulatory compliance.
  • Assist with interviewing and onboarding new employees.
  • Provide information to prospective families through phone calls and in-person tours.
  • Support teaching staff by jumping in to classrooms to provide assistance.
  • Assist with covering lunch breaks.
  • Create weekly schedules and update daily, as needed.

Skills

  • Proven experience working with children in daycare
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for engaging with children, parents, and team members.
  • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities with patience, enthusiasm, and professionalism.
  • Ability to manage a team of employees, including people with diverse backgrounds and differing views
  • Strong knowledge of childhood development, early childhood education, and age-appropriate activities.
  • Certification in first aid and CPR, with a clear understanding of emergency response procedures (or willingness to get certified)
  • Experience with infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children
  • Ability to manage classroom behavior effectively through positive reinforcement and behavior management strategies.
  • Familiarity with special education needs and working with children with disabilities to ensure inclusive care.
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards, sanitation practices, and caregiving best practices.
  • Experience with classroom management, early childhood education curricula, and developmental milestones.
  • Compassionate caregiving skills, including nurturing, attentive listening, and emotional support.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the dynamic needs of young children and a busy center environment.

Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
