What are the responsibilities and job description for the BHT position at The Lakes Behavioral Health?
Position Overview
At The Lakes Behavioral Health, our BHTs are the steady hands that guide clients through every step of their recovery and mental wellness journey. The role is about connection, follow-through, and advocacy — making sure each person receives the care, structure, and resources they need to reach their best level of health and independence.
You’ll assess needs, coordinate services, and stay connected from the moment of admission through discharge. That means helping clients access counseling, education, housing, transportation, and any other supports that give them the best shot at stability. Above all, you’ll be the advocate — ensuring that care is both compassionate and cost-effective while keeping the client’s well-being front and center.
Key Responsibilities
- Track client progress throughout treatment, ensuring continuity and quality of care.
- Begin working with clients upon admission and remain a point of contact through discharge.
- Provide ongoing support under the direction of the primary therapist and treatment plan.
- Identify and report client needs and relevant clinical updates to the treatment team.
- Participate in treatment team meetings to ensure seamless collaboration among staff.
- Assist clients with practical and personal needs such as family coordination, schooling, sober living or IOP placement, and billing assistance.
- Attend weekly clinical meetings for guidance and oversight from the Clinical Director.
- Complete treatment plans, biopsychosocial assessments, and pre-certifications under supervision of a licensed clinician.
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record (as determined by insurance carrier).
- Minimum of a high school diploma; higher education preferred.
- At least 2 years of behavioral health and/or case management experience.
- Minimum 18 hours of behavioral health–related education.
- Must be 21 years or older.
- Proficient with Windows, Microsoft Word, email, and general computer systems.
- Strong written communication — able to craft clear, professional reports and correspondence.
- Excellent reading comprehension and attention to detail.
- Self-directed, flexible, and able to adapt to changing client or program needs.
- Works well within a team setting.
- Professional or personal experience in mental health or addiction treatment strongly preferred.
- High level of patience, empathy, and professionalism.
- Active CPR and First Aid certification required.
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
- Capable of performing light physical tasks, including lifting up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to assist clients, handle belongings, and complete basic physical assessments when needed.
- Requires full range of motion and sensory ability (hearing, vision, speech, etc.) necessary for client interaction and documentation.
If you’re someone who sees the human being before the diagnosis — who finds meaning in guiding people through the hardest parts of their story — then this role at The Lakes Behavioral Health is where your skill and heart will matter most.
