Role Overview
The Technical Designer is an integral part of the creative and production team - tasked with taking client concepts through design into fabrication. Our Technical Design team initiates and helps manage the design development and specifications of each project through its lifecycle - concept development through installation. In this role you will generate 3D geometry for detailed fabrication and construction, 2D drawings and CNC files, as well as assembly and installation drawing packages. This role integrates expertise in model development, fabrication processes, tooling, and document generation.
Key Responsibilities
Produce 3D geometry, documents, and 2D drawings based on client concepts and feedback.
Create, develop, and export 3D models based off of client provided design packages and/or client models.
Produce detailed design packages that communicate design concepts to clients for approval, including all necessary annotations, dimensions, and notes.
Deliver technical drawing packages for in-house fabrication, vendors/subs, and on-site installation teams that effectively communicate accurate dimensions, annotations and notes.
Take direction from and communicate clearly and regularly with the shop foreman, production manager, and fabrication team.
Organize drawing and model files in a server database
Effectively use modeling tools - Rhino
Proficiency in material properties for metals, plastics, wood, and 3D printed assemblies.
Inspection of physical parts against 3D model, correct any deviations and inconsistencies before final production.
Research materials and hardware for use in the fabrication of design elements.
Adapt insights from existing manufacturing processes, product designs and materials to incorporate into future development projects.
Interact with design personnel to define and solve production issues and implement cost reduction ideas.
Adhere to departmental and company standards.
Communicate and offer technical expertise within our team.

Qualifications/Experience/ Skills and Attributes
Ability to work in an extremely fast paced environment
Bachelor’s degree in Design/ Engineering/ Architecture or similar, or equivalent work experience.
5 years previous experience in technical design and 3D modeling in a professional setting.
5 years prior experience using 3D technical design tools. Rhino is required.
Ability to create, read and decipher technical drawings and plans.
Ability to delegate and manage a small team to achieve a drawing package on time and budget.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work closely with a team and elevate project challenges to management in a timely manner.
Possess strong interpersonal and personal skills including: flexibility and an ability to adapt to constant change or sense of urgency.
