Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Marketing & Communications, the Graphic Design and Social Media Manager plays a pivotal role in shaping the visual and digital voice of Kentucky Science Center. This multifaceted position leads the development of engaging graphic design, manages the organization’s social media presence, and drives creative strategies that elevate our brand and mission.
The ideal candidate is a visual storyteller with a strong design portfolio, a strategic mindset for social media, and a passion for communication. They will craft compelling content that sparks curiosity, builds community, and strengthens public engagement across platforms. Experience with photography, video editing, and multimedia production is highly valued.

Graphic Design
Lead creative direction and design compelling visual assets for print, digital, and environmental displays; anything from exhibit signage and event promotions to donor campaigns and gift shop items to support various campaigns and initiatives.
- Ensure accessibility and brand consistency across all visual materials, while maintaining and evolving brand guidelines to reflect the Science Center’s voice and visual identity across all media.
- Provide creative leadership and guidance to team members for cross-functional collaborators on visual and digital projects.
- Participate in cross-departmental planning meetings to align strategies, develop, and manage a workback schedule
- Support the Marketing and Communications team with graphic content for the website, e-news and various other platforms.
- Experience with basic web design and content updates.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment on design-related decisions.
- Collaborate with other Science Center departments to ensure cohesive visual representation across materials.
- Utilize Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) for design creation.
- Conduct design reviews and proofing prior to printing and publishing.
- Coordinate with external vendors for printing, signage, and production as needed.
- Maintain organized media libraries including design files, photos, and video clips.
Social Media Management
- Partner with internal teams to brainstorm and implement social media strategies that promote engagement and align with the Science Center’s mission..
- Create, schedule, and manage brand consistent and engaging content that highlights the mission, programs, events, and behind-the-scenes moments on social including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.
- Design platform-optimized assets (e.g., vertical videos for Reels/TikTok, carousel graphics for Instagram, thumbnails for YouTube)
- Monitor social media channels, respond to comments/messages, and foster positive community interactions.
- Experience in crisis communications and reputation management, particularly in digital and social media contexts.
- Stay current on social media trends, platform updates, and best practices to improve content and engagement.
- Attend Science Center events to capture media for social platforms and assist with hosted programs as assigned.
- Utilize Adobe Premiere Pro and other tools for short-form video creation tailored to social media.
- Adapt visual content for platform-specific formats (e.g., Reels, Stories, carousels, thumbnails).
- Maintain photo and video libraries for ongoing content needs.
- Conduct audits of social media performance to identify gaps, successes, and opportunities to grow our social media presence across Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, LinkedIn, and emerging platforms.
Associate degree with an emphasis in graphic design, social media, or equivalent experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 3 years graphic design experience in a professional environment.
- Minimum 1-year social media experience in a professional environment.
- Proficient with Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) for design and Adobe Premiere Pro and other tools for short-form video creation
- Experience with basic web design programs
- Demonstrate high levels of organization, creativity, imagination, originality, and the ability to contribute in unique and specialized ways.
- Ability to plan, develop, and organize projects and work schedules.
- Ability to meet agreed upon deadlines and follow directions.
- Ability to spot potential problems before they arise.
