Our client, Excel Academy Charter Schools, is seeking a Managing Director of Student Supports (MDSS) to serve as a senior, network-level leader driving strategy, systems, and coherence across student support services in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Excel Academy is a high-performing network of five public charter schools serving 1,700 students in grades 5–12. Grounded in a belief in every student’s potential, Excel consistently delivers strong academic outcomes, with students outperforming peers and graduating college at significantly higher rates.
The MDSS will set a clear, network-wide vision for student supports—including special education, multilingual learner services, and tiered academic and behavioral interventions—ensuring all students can meet ambitious goals. This leader will focus on strengthening systems (not day-to-day case management), integrating supports into core instructional and operational structures, and building the capacity of school-based leaders.
Key priorities include:
- Establishing a unified vision for student supports across schools
- Advancing inclusive Tier 1 instruction in partnership with academic leaders
- Strengthening MTSS systems, including intervention and progress monitoring
- Developing and supporting Deans of Student Supports
- Designing effective, sustainable staffing models
- Aligning compliance, case management, and instructional priorities
