Description
The CNC Process Engineer is responsible for developing, refining, and sustaining CNC manufacturing processes that deliver high efficiency, exceptional quality, and cost‑effective production for new product introductions. This role partners closely with cross‑functional teams—including quality engineering, quality assurance, setup personnel, and machinists—to support production targets, product performance, and on‑time delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- CNC process development — Design and implement optimized machining processes, including tooling, fixturing, and programming for multi‑axis CNC equipment.
- CAD/CAM programming — Create, validate, and refine CNC programs using CAD/CAM platforms while ensuring alignment with specifications and quality requirements.
- Workflow optimization — Evaluate manufacturing operations to identify opportunities to increase throughput, reduce cycle time, and eliminate waste.
- Design for Manufacturability — Collaborate with design engineering to ensure new products are manufacturable and provide DFM guidance during early design stages.
- Troubleshooting and root cause analysis — Lead investigations into production issues and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Equipment and tooling selection — Assess and recommend CNC machines, tooling, and technologies to support NPI initiatives.
- Process documentation — Develop and maintain work instructions, setup sheets, and standard operating procedures.
- Training and mentoring — Coach operators and technical staff on CNC methods, best practices, and quality expectations.
- Continuous improvement — Support Lean initiatives such as 5S, Six Sigma, and Kaizen to drive ongoing process improvement.
- Regulatory and safety compliance — Ensure all CNC processes adhere to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- CNC machining experience — Minimum 5 years in CNC machining and process engineering.
- Advanced CNC programming — Strong hands‑on experience with programming, setup, and operation, including probing and macro development.
- CAD/CAM proficiency — Skilled in SolidWorks, Esprit, Siemens NX, and verification tools such as Vericut.
- Multi‑axis machining — Deep knowledge of 3‑, 4‑, and 5‑axis milling and multi‑axis mill‑turn systems.
- Engineering interpretation — Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and customer standards.
- GD&T expertise — Strong understanding of GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
- Metrology knowledge — Extensive experience with measurement tools and inspection methods.
- Lean manufacturing — Background in process optimization and Lean methodologies.
- Problem‑solving — Proven ability to conduct root‑cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Cross‑functional communication — Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Engineering degree — Bachelor’s in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field.
- ERP/MRP familiarity — Experience with ERP/MRP systems, preferably Epicor.
- U.S. citizenship — Required for this role.
