We are seeking a Sr. Research Project Coordinator II who will complete a range of tasks in support of the PIRL lab in the Department of Sociology. The lab conducts collaborative, interdisciplinary, mixed-methods research to inform policy related to poverty, housing, education, and families. We develop research projects that advance evidence to increase social mobility and decrease inequality by race and income. In particular, our work prioritizes the often-unheard voices of families, children and youth living in the “Other America” and considers their experiences to be expert knowledge that advances our research to improve policy and practice. Work is done using multiple social scientific methods, often in conjunction, including qualitative data collection and analysis via semi-structured interviews, structural micro-econometric modeling and estimation, and statistical analysis of large-scale administrative data, among other approaches. This position will include a variety of tasks in support of our overall mission.

The Sr. Research Project Coordinator II oversees the administrative and technical implementation of complex* and/or multiple research projects. As part of the research team, collaborates with faculty to develop project plan(s), develop SOPs, and oversee all research-related activities for one or more complex projects. (*Complex to include, e.g. external partners, policy advocacy, significant community interventions.)

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Contribute as a member of a collaborative team to study design formulation.
  • Participate in development, testing and evaluation of manuals, questionnaires, and coding structures, for the efficient collection of data.
  • Develop and oversee design and implementation of study procedures and tools for data collection, e.g. participant interviews, administer questionnaires, background research, laboratory processing, etc.
  • Monitor and ensure team compliance with all protocols, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Participate in developing study budgets.
  • Set up data collection system and ensure validity of study data.
  • Organize and quality control data.
  • Recommend and implement changes to protocol operations based on results and goals.
  • Based on the analysis of data, recommend and implement the next steps.
  • Identify and suggest ideas for sub-studies.
  • Extract data, review literature, and assist with preparation of manuscripts and presentations as appropriate.
  • May oversee day-to-day activities and provide training for study staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

In addition to the duties described above

  • Work directly with Director daily to manage the workflow of daily operations that includes supporting all research study operations, student work, and calendar management for Director and ongoing projects.
  • Coordinate lab hiring and payroll for staff research assistants, undergraduate student workers, and postdoctoral fellows.
  • Assist Director/Principal Investigator with the financial management, forecasting, planning and budget development for both sponsored and non-sponsored activities.
  • Review and coordinate the submission of reimbursable expense reports for Director/PI, postdoctoral fellows, staff, affiliated researchers, and student workers, and ensure charges made to the appropriate account.
  • Arrange and book travel for staff members for research fieldwork trips to study sites, including requesting/facilitating airline bookings and the reservation of lodging and rental cars.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
  • Five years of related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in a related field

Starting Salary Range: $48,000 - $84,100 Annually ($60,000 Targeted)
