JHU Carey Business School is seeking an experienced Admissions recruiter for the role of Assistant Director Admissions based in our offices in Baltimore’s Harbor East. The Assistant Director Admissions serves on the Admissions team and collaborates with Admissions leadership to design, implement, and manage recruitment strategies. As a subject matter expert, this position will provide advice and mentorship to other Admissions staff in area of expertise and has additional, specific job responsibilities related to that area of expertise. May also include limited supervisory responsibilities.

The position will involve in-person and virtual recruitment, as well as significant projects across the office which may include working with student volunteer groups, collaborating on office programs, responding to and working with prospective students and families, and engaging university partners. The Assistant Director will also be responsible for large roles in larger projects that work towards office priorities and goals.

This position manages recruitment strategy, planning, and execution in support of strategic enrollment goals for an assigned set of full-time programs. As the subject matter expert within the Office of Admissions for these programs, the Assistant Director collaborates closely with academic program directors, academic program managers, and other key faculty and staff to remain current on curriculum, differentiating features, and program goals.

Carey offers a comprehensive portfolio of graduate business programs, including the flagship Full-time MBA, Part-time/Online Flexible MBA, Executive MBA, and a wide range of full-time and online Master of Science, dual-degree, and certificate programs. While admissions officers represent the full portfolio of Carey programs, each role may have a primary focus area. This position is expected to be onsite at least 3 days per week. Some evening and weekend work is required along with a willingness and ability to travel domestically as well as internationally, if needed. Exact travel responsibility is dependent on assigned programs and territory.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide management and oversight for assigned projects and project-based teams within the recruitment function.
  • Collaborate with Admissions leadership in providing ongoing in-house training and professional development.
  • Lead and manage recruitment and application review for an assigned region (domestic and/or international territory) or applicant group. Recruitment responsibilities include, but are not limited to
  • Build relationships and hosting presentations in the market.
  • Visit high schools and community organizations.
  • Develop knowledge and familiarity with the secondary school landscape in their region.
  • Provide and analyze data and prepare reports to evaluate recruitment strategies.
  • Conduct information sessions, support tours as needed and respond to routine requests from prospective applicants and families, as well as counselors.
  • Will be expected to represent and be knowledgeable about the academics, student experience and financial aid programs at Hopkins.
  • Lead programming and events staffing as assigned.
  • Ensure timely and effective compilation of materials for admission committee review.
  • Make scholarship recommendations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely entry of admission committee decisions and scholarship awards.
  • Manage internal and external relationships: Faculty, counselors, prospective students and families, current students, university administrators, high school counselors, alumni.
  • Must be service and team oriented and aware of the needs and concerns of a selective private university.
  • May include supervision of other designated Admissions roles.
  • The Admissions Officer will have other responsibilities, to be determined around a specific project or program area. These responsibilities could include, but are not limited to, hiring and training student volunteers, developing materials for recruitment workshops and other events, assisting with messaging and presentation delivery, building international recruitment plans, or furthering initiatives related to access and diversity.

In Addition to Duties & Responsibilities Above

  • Recruitment Strategy & Representation: Develop and execute annual recruitment plans for assigned full-time programs, including the Full-time MBA and full-time specialized. master’s programs; represent Johns Hopkins Carey Business School publicly at virtual, on-campus, and off-campus recruitment events; and travel as required to support outreach and enrollment goals.
  • Prospective Student Engagement & Advising: Serve as a knowledgeable, consultative advisor to prospective students by communicating the value of Carey and its full-time programs, counseling candidates through program selection and the application process, and managing outreach and engagement through multiple communication channels and CRM technologies.
  • Admissions Evaluation & Decision Support: Review application files for the Full-time MBA, interview full-time applicants as needed, and recommend admission or denial decisions based on established admissions criteria and a holistic review process in support of Carey Business School degree programs.

Technical Qualifications Or Specialized Certifications

  • Knowledge of standard office software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Five years of related experience.
  • Ability to travel domestically on a regular basis and internationally on an occasional basis.
  • Evening and/or weekend work required.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Understanding of graduate management education, including MBA and specialized master’s programs, student motivations, and enrollment decision-making factors.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage CRM and reporting tools, with prior experience using Slate or comparable student application platforms.
  • Exceptional public speaking, verbal, and written communication skills; with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively to lead communication at all organizational levels, and with a diverse set of constituents.
  • Proven ability to assess priorities, respond quickly to changing needs, organize time, and work effectively independently and as part of a team.
