Senior Tax & Audit Accountant
Our client in public accounting is seeking an experienced Senior Tax & Audit Accountant (CPA required) located in Thorofare, NJ. This is a senior-level position for an accomplished accounting professional at least 7 years of public accounting experience.
Salary: $130,000-$150,000

Schedule: In Office 5 days a week
Key Responsibilities Tax
- Manage complex tax engagements from initial planning through preparation, review, completion, and client delivery.
- Prepare and/or review complex federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, C corporations, trusts, and other entities, as applicable.
- Research and analyze complex tax issues and provide practical recommendations to clients.
- Identify tax planning opportunities and communicate potential risks and strategies to clients and engagement teams.
- Review tax work prepared by senior and junior accountants for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations.
- Monitor engagement budgets and deadlines and ensure work is completed efficiently and accurately.
- Communicate directly with clients to obtain information, resolve questions, and explain tax matters in a clear and professional manner.
- Stay current with changes in federal and state tax laws, regulations, and accounting standards.
Audit & Assurance
- Plan and conduct financial statement audits from beginning to end, including engagement planning, risk assessment, fieldwork, testing, documentation, and completion.
- Develop audit strategies and procedures based on an understanding of the client's business, industry, internal controls, and financial reporting risks.
- Perform and/or supervise substantive testing, internal control testing, analytical procedures, and other audit procedures.
- Prepare and review audit workpapers and ensure documentation complies with professional standards and firm requirements.
- Identify accounting, financial reporting, and internal control issues and develop appropriate recommendations.
- Communicate audit findings and recommendations to clients and firm leadership.
- Assist with the preparation and review of financial statements and related disclosures.
- Supervise, train, and review the work of senior and junior accountants assigned to audit engagements.
Team Leadership & Management
- Manage and provide day-to-day leadership to a small team of senior and junior accountants.
- Assign work based on team members' experience, capabilities, and workload.
- Review work performed by team members and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Train, mentor, and develop staff to strengthen their technical accounting, tax, and audit skills.
- Establish priorities and monitor progress to ensure engagements are completed accurately and within established deadlines and budgets.
- Serve as a technical and professional resource for team members when complex accounting, tax, or audit issues arise.
- Identify opportunities to improve team efficiency, engagement processes, and quality of work.
- Foster a collaborative, professional, and client-focused team environment.
Client Service & Firm Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain strong, long-term client relationships.
- Serve as a trusted accounting and tax advisor to clients.
- Communicate effectively with clients, managers, partners, and engagement team members.
- Manage multiple engagements and competing priorities while consistently meeting deadlines.
- Demonstrate sound professional judgment and take ownership of assigned engagements.
- Provide leadership and direction to assigned engagement teams.
- Participate in firm initiatives and help identify opportunities to improve engagement processes and efficiency.
- Maintain the highest standards of professionalism, confidentiality, ethics, and client service.
Qualifications
- 7-1O years of progressive public accounting experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- CPA license required
- Significant experience preparing and/or reviewing complex tax engagements.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage a complex tax engagement
- Prior experience leading/mentoring/managing Jr/Sr accounting professionals
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and professional auditing standards.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state taxation.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple engagements, priorities, and deadlines.
- Proficiency with accounting, tax, and audit software.

Experience and confidence to independently manage complex tax engagements, plan and conduct financial statement audits, maintain strong client relationships, and oversee a team of senior and junior accountants.
This person should be comfortable balancing technical accounting and tax responsibilities with team leadership and client service. They should be someone who leads by example, takes ownership of their work, develops those around them, and can be relied upon to bring complex engagements to a successful conclusion with minimal supervision.
