Facilities Mechanical/Building Systems Engineer II
This position is responsible for providing a full range of advanced plant operational support along with planning, design/engineering, and project management oversight for The Jackson Laboratory's capital projects portfolio. The successful candidate will also provide technical support for HVAC, medium pressure steam and chilled water plant operations as well as leading energy efficiency projects supporting 2M ft2 of complex research laboratory and vivaria space across five domestic US sites.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Utilize expertise in mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, utility plants, and other critical mechanical infrastructure within laboratory and/or vivaria facilities, to inform and influence project design and construction.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement effective engineered solutions tailored to the stringent operational requirements of The Jackson Laboratory.
- Act as the Project Manager for comprehensive design and construction capital projects, both establishing and ensuring adherence to agree upon project schedules, budgets, and scope of work.
- Lead the planning, design, construction, and occupancy phases of projects ranging from $20K to $100M, through effective communication, leadership and application of technical skills.
- Provide technical support and guidance to peer Facilities Engineers, Project Managers, and Facilities Operations and Maintenance teams
- Conduct in-depth planning and feasibility studies for potential projects, offering valuable insights and strategic recommendations.
- Develop and maintain mechanical system design standards for all Jackson Laboratory locations to ensure consistent and high-quality project outcomes.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering and 5 years in project management related to utility plant and building systems projects. Previous experience in critical infrastructure type facilities desirable.
- Exceptional organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to handle multiple projects in a dynamic and high-pressure environment.
- Solid understanding of local, state and federal laws, codes and regulations is required. This includes IBC, NFPA, ASHRAE, and OSHA.
Pay Range: $92,192.00 - $133,678.00
