Associate Data Scientist
The Insurance Research Council (IRC) Associate Data Scientist is responsible for conducting primary research and creating content in support of the IRC’s public policy mission and member value proposition. This role requires not only strong analytical skills, but also good communication skills (writing and presenting) to translate abstract mathematical and statistical concepts into everyday language.

Associate Data Scientist
The Insurance Research Council (IRC) Associate Data Scientist is responsible for conducting primary research and creating content in support of the IRC’s public policy mission and member value proposition. This role requires not only strong analytical skills, but also good communication skills (writing and presenting) to translate abstract mathematical and statistical concepts into everyday language.
What You’ll Do
- Utilize advanced analytical techniques (including predictive modeling, machine learning, and AI) to conduct original research in the IRC proprietary auto injury claim analytics database (AICAD)
- Analyze insurance, economic, financial, and survey data to generate original research to benefit the insurance industry, IRC members, policymakers, and consumers
- Assist in the acquisition, preparation, analysis, and presentation of insurance, economic, financial, and survey data, including future updates of AICAD
- Perform analysis by processing data using best practices in data governance
- Communicate data excellence and insights via traditional reporting products and data visualization tools
- Contribute to the production of key IRC research projects, including reports, summaries, and presentations
- Perform additional data analytics and administrative tasks, as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Graduate degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or related field strongly preferred
- Experience with programming languages required (SAS, R, SQL/VBA, Python)
- Experience with AWS cloud-based data hosting environment and analytical software packages like Sagemaker strongly preferred
- 2 years of work experience in analytics strongly preferred
- Must have 2 years of experience conducting quantitative research
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required
- Prior experience and/or working knowledge of the risk management or insurance industry is preferred
- Technical Knowledge:
- Experience working in AWS cloud-based data hosting environment and analytical software packages like Sagemaker
- Experience with programming languages (e.g., SAS, R, SQL/VBA, Python)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Research & Data Analysis: Quantitative research and analysis skills - tools, methodologies, database management; Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Communication skills: Exceptional oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate throughout all levels of the organization, both internally and externally; Ability to present information and respond to questions professionally and effectively, conversationally and in written communications
- Collaboration: Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment; Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a focus on rapport-building, listening, and questioning skills.
- Available for 2-4 business trips per year
