General Summary of Duties: This is a full-time, 18-month, paid position with The Institute for Human Services, Inc. The Teen Mental Health First Aid Coordinator is responsible for implementation, and ongoing trainings, of teen Mental Health First Aid in Steuben and Chemung Counties.

This position will assemble and organize training resources for participants, scheduling, and coordinate YMHFA Instructor events, implement TMHFA and program evaluation activities, create and disseminate marketing materials, and support efforts to achieve program sustainability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Schedule, coordinate, and arrange logistics for outreach, training, and community events.
  • Implement free teen Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) and Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMFHA) training in the Steuben and Chemung County community.
  • Conduct outreach to market and coordinate training within Steuben and Chemung County targeting designated scope of work pilot locations.
  • Build a network of mental health and suicide prevention resources to be available to the community.
  • Provide community awareness to decrease stigma against people with mental health illnesses and substance use problems while increasing knowledge of suicide risk factors and warning signs.
  • Provide tools for community members to help with early identification, intervention, and referral to appropriate professional help.
  • Collect data on activities conducted and submit data entry and maintenance of in-person and virtual trainings or information session on recognizing and responding to signs and symptoms of mental health challenges.
  • Work cooperatively with other community agencies, as appropriate, and in agreement with supervisor.
  • Assist in development of promotional and marketing materials.
  • Creation of sustainability plan.
  • Responsible for all administrative duties and requirements to the program, including but not limited to, reporting requirements, documentation of activities, submission of all required paperwork, preparing purchase orders, etc.
  • Participate in community network meetings and funder required meetings and training.
  • Complete all scope of work/workplan performance measures within 18 months.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Planning, facilitating, and implementing training to adult learners and young adults (high school students).
  • Outreach and engagement activities for programming.
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity is required. Ability to communicate and cooperate with diverse families, various professionals, and community groups.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups or employees or the organization.
  • Exercises discretion and independent judgment in executing tasks.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to establish helping relationships with families of varying educational, experiential and socio-economic backgrounds and handle emergency and crisis situations.

Qualifications:

Associate degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred, in health, public health, human services, education, or other related field with at least four years’ experience with training and community engagement, planning, facilitating, and implementing trainings to all target populations.

Certified Youth and Teen MHFA Instructor or have the capacity to become certified within the first 60 days of hire.

Additional Requirements:

There will be 25% travel.

Work schedule is in person 8:00am - 4:00pm (37.5 hours/week), Monday through Friday. Schedule may be flexible and additional weekend and evening work may be necessary for special events. Must be willing to travel, including air. A valid NYS driver’s license, clean driving record, and operable vehicle are essential for travel to other sites for meetings and events.
