What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preschool Program Assistant at The Indy Lab Preschool and Parenting Center position at The Indy Lab?
About Us
The Indy Lab is a preschool and parenting center where children grow through play, curiosity, and connection. We focus on project and inquiry-based learning with a focus on development. We're a warm, close-knit team and we take pride in creating a school environment that feels good for kids and adults alike.
About the Role
We're hiring a dependable, flexible Preschool Program Assistant to help keep our school day running smoothly. This is an entry-level position and a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young children and wants to build experience in operations, marketing and/or early childhood education.
You'll move throughout the building where you're needed most, supporting teachers and staff across the day.
What You'll Do
- Float in classrooms to cover when teachers are absent in either 2's, 3's or 4's classrooms
- Cover daily teacher lunch breaks and cover children during nap time daily
- Help with morning arrivals — welcoming families and settling children in, taking messages for Directors, answering the doorbell and/or phone as well as making sure families at the back door get in.
- Assist with half-day and full-day dismissals by calling for students through our walkie system and helping students pack up and get to their families so the teachers can hand off information to the parents.
- Support the 3:00–4:00 PM after-school transition by supervising children.
- Tidying up the art closet on a weekly basis.
- Tidying up the kitchen area every other day.
- Help with light housekeeping (making sure bathrooms are well stocked with paper towels, toilet paper and soap and remain clean/dry/organized throughout the day) and playground tidying (e.g., picking up any evidence of loose trash, putting any classroom furniture back in the rooms, watering herb/vegetable garden, putting bins back into sensory tables and tidying up tables).
What We're Looking For
- A warm person who is comfortable in a customer-facing role.
- Someone who can be flexible with quick changes
- A genuine love of working with young children (ages 18 mos - 6 years old)
- Articulate speech with polite demeanor
- Reliable, on-time, and comfortable with a flexible daily schedule
- Calm, patient, and positive — even on busy days
- No prior ECE experience required, but it's a plus
- Must be able to pass a State background check
- Must complete a Medical Statement and TB Test
- CPR/First Aid certification a plus (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
