What are the responsibilities and job description for the Marketing Assistant position at The Hunger Coalition?
JOB SUMMARY:
The primary function of The Marketing Assistant (MA) is to help build the food justice movement by inspiring our community to get involved. The MA will manage our website, social media, and program marketing efforts; will write content, design posters and flyers, and grow our digital network of anti-hunger advocates. The MA should be creative, bilingual, tech savvy, be comfortable in graphic design programs, motivated by deadlines, passionate about activism and the power of communicators to influence change.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
- Has one-two years of relevant experience or education in digital marketing, communications, or graphic design.
- Is fluently bilingual in Spanish and English, with the ability to communicate clearly in both languages in writing and verbally.
- Works well with persons of varied sexual orientation, gender identity, racial, ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds, and with individuals who are differently-abled.
- Has personal experience with food insecurity or a commitment to social justice and/or community service through previous employment and/or volunteer experience.
- Is willing to embrace and work to improve a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion, which is central to the work we do.
- Is a strong writer in English and Spanish and understands how to tailor communications to their audience.
- Has graphic design experience, is familiar with graphic design programs or at least a strong eye for good design.
- Has experience updating websites in WordPress.
- Experience developing SMS campaigns is a plus.
- Strong writer, designer, or both—we welcome candidates with complementary communication strengths.
- Culturally competent communicator who can create inclusive, respectful, and accessible messaging for different audiences.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- With the support of /Alongside/ Under the supervision of the Communications Manager:
- Create posters, flyers, and digital marketing materials for various programs
- Develop SMS communications vehicle to reach more advocates via text
- Manage all website updates through WordPress
- Produce social media content and manage professional Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok accounts
- Support the audit of all current collateral for accuracy of data and English/Spanish translations
- Provide backup at food distributions, front desk, programs as needed
- Participate in programs to connect with our community and find inspiration
