6-Week Paid Summer Internship | 24 hours/week
Are you a college student exploring a career in education, psychology, special education, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, social work, or human services?
The Hope Learning Center is offering a hands-on Summer Internship designed to give students meaningful, real-world experience in a special needs school setting. Interns will work closely with teachers, therapists, and school staff while supporting students with developmental differences during our Extended School Year (ESY) Program.
This is an excellent opportunity to build your resume, gain professional references, and explore whether a career in special education or related fields is right for you.
What You’ll Gain

What You’ll Do
Classroom Support & Student Interaction
Assist teachers with classroom activities, lesson preparation, and learning materials
Support students one-on-one or in small groups with assignments, activities, and assessments
Help implement student behavior plans under teacher supervision
Use technology and assistive tools (tablets, computers, audio-visual aids) to support learning
Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, outdoor areas, and on field trips
Collect basic student data using paper and electronic data systems
Collaboration & Professional Learning
Work alongside special education teachers and support staff
Attend training sessions, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities
Participate in observations and mentorship conversations
General Support
Help maintain clean and organized learning environments
Track attendance and assist with basic administrative tasks
Follow all school policies and procedures
Who We’re Looking For
Rising juniors and seniors enrolled in an accredited college or university
Available to commit to the full 6-week Extended School Year (ESY) program
Able to work 24 hours per week on-site
Interested in education, psychology, therapy, or human services
Patient, reliable, and eager to learn
Experience working with individuals with developmental delays is a plus, but not required

To work in a school setting, interns must be able to obtain the following clearances and trainings (guidance provided as needed):
Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance
Act 34 State Criminal History Clearance
Act 114 FBI Clearance (Department of Education)
Act 168 Clearance
Mandated Reporter Training
CPR/First Aid Certification
Recent Physical and Tuberculosis (TB) Test
