Note to Prospective Teachers:
We are excited to share with you what it is like to be an Academy teacher! Compensation consistent with WCSD pay scale, 100% health dental and long-term disability insurance, and PERS retirement. Completed applications need to be received by April 5th at midnight to be initially considered. First round of interviews will take place the week of April 17th. Finalists for the position will be invited to a second teacher panel interview and may be asked to a community event as part of the application process.
Prospective Teachers need to submit the following to complete your application:
-Cover Letter
-Current resume or curriculum vitae
-Scanned copy of your teaching certifications
-Original lesson plan or unit that demonstrates teaching content and/or language standards in an innovative way
-Phone and email contact information for three references with knowledge of your teaching abilities
Teacher Requirements:
· Nevada or National Teacher Certification
· Track record of community involvement beyond the classroom
· Experience working with primary-age children
· Work or volunteer record that demonstrates a passion for teaching
· Evidence of leadership skills
· Has worked as a part of a collaborative team
· Experience working with diverse populations
· Strong knowledge of contemporary Children’s Literature
· Familiarity with developmental instruction and differentiation
· Familiarity with administering educational assessments, interpreting data, and adjusting instruction based on assessment results
· Strong communication skills
· Record of working effectively with all stakeholders, especially parents
· Strong references who are familiar with your teaching abilities
Teacher Preferences:
· Masters in Ed. or working toward a M.Ed., Ph.D. program a plus
· Dual Certification, multiple certifications, or National Board Certification
· Successful experience teaching
· Experience teaching in a non-traditional environment
· Record of developmental instruction or differentiation in teaching
· Clinical experience in teaching reading or math
· Knowledge of the Daily Five and Words Their Way approaches
· Strong knowledge in contemporary multicultural Children’s Literature
· Bilingual or multi-lingual
· Experience with data analysis and/or educational research
· Curriculum development experience
· Program development experience
· Understanding of progressive ways to teach academic language and vocabulary as well as content-specific vocabulary
· Record of successful fundraising for your school or classroom
· Strong writing and grammar skills
