Position Description

The Mileu Director is responsible for establishing and fostering a strength-based and collaborative culture with both staff and students. The Milieu Director oversees, manages, and reports on all aspects of therapeutic milieu programming for the COVE School. The Milieu Director provides supervision and training to Behavior Support Staff, School Campus Coordinator and other direct care supports. Establishes and fosters an environment that supports the physical and psychological safety of all.

How You Will Be Making a Difference

  • Provides individual supervision for the Behavior Support Staff, School Campus Coordinator and team supervision for all direct care staff within the COVE School.
  • Trains and evaluates staff performance, both formally and informally; documents supervisions; works with the Principal and Vice Principal regarding disciplinary actions and terminations.
  • Participates in the hiring process for Behavior Support Staff, School Campus Coordinator, as needed.
  • In conjunction with senior program leadership, drafts and revises program procedures (e.g., School Behavior Support Plan) Monitors the implementation of agency and program policies.
  • Supports the Behavior Support Staff, School Campus Coordinator in ensuring group and student living spaces are orderly and therapeutic.
  • Coordinates and provides training for staff members including creating orientation schedules for new hires. Ensures that subordinates are current on all required trainings.
  • Provides direct therapeutic care to the residents and crisis intervention as needed including the use of seclusion and restraints; assumes a leadership role in managing emergency situations by coaching direct care staff through the apprenticeship model.
  • In conjunction with Behavior Support Staff, School Campus Coordinator, plans processing work for students out of group.
  • May be required to provide on-call coverage for the program on a rotating basis. May be required to act as the shift leader on a rotating basis.
  • Approves timesheet submissions for subordinate(s) and completes payroll correction forms, as needed. Performs same duties for Behavior Support Staff, School Campus Coordinator when they are off.
  • Reviews, edits, and completes notification processes on all incident reports for assigned dormitory; participates in the gathering of information for incidents not handled in a manner consistent with HLW guidelines.
  • Oversees the implementation of behavior management system. Monitors the effectiveness of behavior management strategies. Evaluates the need for individualized plans and collaborates with other staff to execute.
  • Oversees and implements any necessary group interventions (e.g., school slow down).
  • Ensures that therapeutic activities are planned at all necessary times and oversees the coordination of these activities, as needed. May be asked to plan and facilitate group activities.
  • Participates and/or chairs various committee meetings (e.g., safety, treatment team, training, leadership, etc.), as assigned.
  • Interfaces with outside stakeholders and various HLW and Wediko departments to integrate services with educational, medical, and clinical disciplines. Works to resolve interdepartmental conflicts.
  • Attends student team meetings and reports on school progress.
  • Reviews and edits Monthly Reports.
  • Completes dormitory supply and maintenance requests, as needed.
  • Communicates with parents/guardians regarding residential related needs (e.g., need for new clothing, sending items home, restricted items, etc.).
  • Checks student belongings upon return from visits. Determines what items need to be securely stored and which items need to go home.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

      Qualifications

      • Equivalent to bachelor’s degree
      • At least 4 years direct childcare experience in a residential setting 
      • 2-3 years supervisory experience
      • Computer literate, including Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer, with the ability to learn new software applications.

      Pay Range Positioning Summary

       The pay range listed represents the company’s good faith estimate of the salary or wage range for this position at the time of posting, as required under applicable law. Actual compensation will be based on a variety of factors, including a candidate’s relevant experience, education, skills, and internal equity relative to other employees in similar roles. Candidates with less directly related experience may be placed toward the lower end of the range, while those with extensive or specialized experience may be placed toward the higher end. Market conditions and budget considerations may also influence final pay decisions.
