Organization Description:

Founded in 1988 by Paul Newman, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp provides "a different kind of healing" to thousands of children with serious illnesses and their families annually - all completely free of charge. For many of these children and families, Hole in the Wall provides multiple Camp experiences throughout the year at the facility in Ashford, Conn, in dozens of hospitals and clinics, directly in camper homes and communities and through other outreach activities across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.

Position Description:

Responsible for the timely and accurate processing of accounts payable, including credit card transactions. Prepare journal entries to record receipt and disbursements related to contributions, banking, payroll, investment and operating activities. Process year-end 1099 reporting and perform various compliance and audit related tasks for payroll, insurance, and 403(b) defined contribution plan. Assist with monthly and annual close and assist Controller with accounting tasks as required.

Our Accountant can expect to...

• Receive and verify invoices for completeness, authorization, and accuracy. Resolve any detected discrepancies or questions.
• Code and select invoices for payment, process weekly check runs, mail checks, and file check stubs and vouchers for all accounts.
• Prepare wire/ACH payments to certain vendors and record activity in accounting system.
• Download electronic worksheets from AMEX portal, capturing credit card activity specific to the cardholder and transmit to the employee; follow up when necessary and code expenses by cost center.
• Prepare bank account reconciliations for approval by supervisor.
• Record journal entries for monthly, quarterly and annual investment activity.
• Review data, process and transmit Form 1099s to contractors and required government agencies.
• Assist with preparation of financial statement audit workpapers (e.g., accrued expenses, prepaid expenses, investments, lease liability, etc.) and gathering required information (account statements, SOC1/SOC2 reports).
• Assist with preparation of Form 990, workers compensation audit and 403(b) audit and gathering required information.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Our Accountant should have...

• One or more years of experience working with accounting software.
• Experience with Blackbaud products (Financial Edge NXT, Raiser's Edge NXT)
• Two or more years of experience in accounting or finance, including accounts payable, or general ledger maintenance.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related business field required; candidates with equivalent work experience in a nonprofit finance environment will be considered.
• The ability to establish positive relationships with a variety of people in multicultural environments.
• Sound knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and regulations.
• Excellent organizational skills and detail-oriented with a passion for accuracy.
• The ability to work collaboratively with other departments.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Base office is in New Haven with hybrid work.
• The ability to operate a computer for extended periods of time with appropriate breaks.
• A valid driver's license and driving record which meets HITWG insurance carrier requirements.
