Job Summary: This role involves leading the estimation, preliminary design, and project management of various fire protection systems including AFFF foam, FM-200, CO2, Halon, NOVEC, and Inergen systems, with particular expertise in Kidde & Ansul designs and military specification requirements for US Navy vessels. The position requires developing technical proposals and clarifications for commercial and government marine vessels, managing project budgets and schedules during the design phase, ensuring all contractual requirements are met, and maintaining proper documentation while following company procedures and policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for estimating incoming RFQs from in-house and outside offices.
- Responsible for reviewing and developing Vendor Furnished Information (VFI) / or Subcontractor Data Requirements Lists (SDRL’s).
- Accountable for understanding the resources required and monitoring overall resource levels for the design effort.
- Liaise with the Engineering Manager throughout each estimate/project on any cost or schedule issues.
- Develop and implement design schedule for each Project. Monitor and maintain schedules.
- Ensure that the QA Sign-Off sheets are completed and signed after every survey or inspection. Ensure that all Regulatory and Classification material certificates are received for all hardware and projects and that they are correct.
- Ensuring that Production personnel have the necessary information and drawings for their project.
- Develop Technical Proposals and standard suppression clarifications
- Work with customers and sales personnel to develop proposals.
Qualifications
What We Are Looking For:

A sound and practical understanding of fire protection system design, marine and vessel terminology. A good working knowledge of planning, with the ability to schedule and monitor tasks. Good communication and people management skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Education:
- MFG’s System Training Certificate in fire protection design, if not must be obtained within 1st year of employment.
- NICET Certifications in various fire system designs is a plus.
- Degree preferred (Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial)
- Sound Technical writing skills.
- Upper-level Mathematics are a plus.
- Display good time management, planning and scheduling.
- Strong Budget and Cost Control management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Good communication and people management skills.
- Strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills required to perform estimates and proposal writing.
